I was impressed with Steve's prompt reply and quick responses to all calls. His estimate was good and I was eager to get the tile done in our bathrooms. We picked out our tile, and Steve was able to get it at a reduced cost. Everything was great. He was prompt everyday, reliable, a hard worker, and a nice guy. I wish our story ended there. I wish I knew what went wrong because so many other people have had good experiences from start to finish with him. Our problems came the last day or two with the grout job. The tile had been laid nicely, personally I wish he had used a leveler, but I'm a perfectionist. The grout job however was BAD! We didn't notice until he was done and gone and we went to clean up- there was a huge mess. Under the cabinets where no one would notice right away there were piles of grout! The corners looked like they had grout anthills in them!!!! My husband and I spent two solid days (and had to get babysitters to watch our kids while we worked) to chip away at the grout piles and clean it all up! AGGRAVATING!! All of the edges were really sloppy, not just the corners, though those were the worst. Also we had to deal with the problem of there being so much cement (or whatever is used to lay the tile) that had squeezed up between the tiles that only a razor thin layer of grout was laying over it. Looked okay until you cleaned it with a damp cloth and the grout just rolled away like a light layer of wet sand. So we also had to find all those spots between the tiles in all 3 bathroooms and dig the area out and refill it with a thicker layer of grout. Fun times!!!!! I should note that I did not call him back to fix it. I felt that if he was okay finishing a job that way then he was not going to get it the way I wanted it anyway. Therefore I did not call him back. Nor did I call him to let him know about his sloppy work, he obviously knew he'd done a slop job on the grout it was as obvious as day when you looked at it and this is his profession after all. Therefore through our days of toil and frustration I resolved to finish it correctly ourselves and warn others of the chance that he could do a sloppy job on their project too. I wish I didn't have bad news to share about him, I really did like him, and clearly he does good work for other people. Still I do not know why he abandoned any sense of good work ethic at the end of our project. What took us days to resolve would have taken him only a little more effort. Wiping away wet grout is a lot easier than chipping away dried grout! Steve, we were really disappointed in your work. I know you will read this and I'm sure it won't come as a surprise to you, but yes we did notice, and yes we did care.

We found KCTileMan on Angie's List and very glad we did. We were pleasantly surprised to find out Steve does plumbing and tile work so we could have it all done at the same time without having to set up jobs with two different contractors. He did great work and even though it turned out to be a bit more difficult than expected he did not ask to be paid anything different from his estimate. This was really a great experience. We are planning to ask him to install flooring (probably porcelain) in our kitchen, bathrooms, and entry way.

Steve promptly returned my call and quickly provided a reasonable price for the work I needed. He was flexible with our scheduling needs. Work was on our front porch and he gave several options for replacement products but never seemed pushy about any of his preferred vendors. We ended up supplying the tile ourselves from a local big box vendor. Steve offered to pick it up at no extra charge. Work was completed in a timely manner, he kept us completely informed about the timeline, cleaned up when he was done and was terrific to work with. He gave me good advice on a couple of tricky areas and did his best to minimize the waste (extra products could be returned!) He was careful around our landscaping and there was minimal impact in the area he was navigating. Very pleased with the finished look and would recommend 100%.

"Steve was very prompt to come and give a bid and very competitive on his pricing. He was punctual everyday and was flexible working with us on a change we made mid-course during the project. His work turned out beautiful - I am very pleased. He kept his work area pretty clean over the four days. My only minor issue was that the project took a day longer than expected and therefor the final "clean-up" was a little rushed even with our help. Overall I would recommend him though - he did a wonderful job!!"

My husband was here when Steve showed up as scheduled to do the work. The next day we were not happy with the way the mortor was crumbling and immediately contacted Steve. He assured us that it was normal and encouraged us to tile the shower immediately. Another big problem was that he didn't set the curb correctly- it's hard to explain but the inside lip of the shower was flush with the 2 x 4 on the wall next to it- therefore if we had attached backerboard & tile to the wall it would've stuck out and wouldn't be flush with the shower pan. We don't have experience with this, but 2 different people experienced with tile application said that he didn't lay the curb correctly on the inside of the shower. He did lay it correctly on the outside, which is why they were baffled that he forgot to do the inside. We had to spend more time and money to fix it and eventually used thinset to hold the hardibacker on the shower curb so the tile could be installed. We pray that it holds up over time. I was in touch with Steve about our concerns, even sending him pictures. He offered advice on what we should do to fix his problem. When I told him that I wasn't happy with his response and how his mistake cost us more time & money, he offered to come over to rip out the shower base and refund our money. He knew we had already "fixed" the problem and were laying the tile the next day so this wasn't even a viable option. My suggestion to him was to refund a portion of the money- whatever HE thought it was worth to have my husband fix the problem was agreeable to us. I explained that it took my husband a couple of hours to buy the material- (hardibacker and some thinset) and then cut and install the board. My husband's day off was Monday so he spent his day off doing that so we could finally get the tile installed. HE NEVER RESPONDED TO MY EMAILS AGAIN

He was extremely messy. We were constantly cleaning up after him. He was doing some fireplace tiles. I had tiles in the garage marked to not use and return. He went out and used the tiles that I labeled not to use. He had my cell phone number. He came back and tore out the tiles he put in and fixed them, but it delayed our entire project. I would not recommend him.

Went well, finished in a week. Had to move/work around large refrigerator. Steve moved out the dishwasher and tiled under it so we can get it out again.

Excellent. The project looked even better than I expected. Steve showed up on time everyday despite having to drive over 50 miles to the work site. He was very professional in his work and rarely took breaks from the work. I was amazed at how hard he worked on a continuous basis.
