"we received a recommendation from the contractor we were using and contacted them.  we did everything by the internet and phone since we weren't living in the area at the time.   they were quick w/responses via email and phone.  they were started and completed the roof in the time frame exactly as they said they would.  The color and workmanship is excellent.  they also did an exceptional job at clean up.   we are extremely happy w/the work and the 10 year warranty that comes with.

"After my 20 year-old roof began leaking I researched roofers in the area. Hodges reviews were mostly positive so I contacted them. Greg responded quickly, came on-site, and we discussed options and cost. On the appointed date the crew arrived early, and worked quickly and diligently. The quality of both the work and the cleanup were excellent. After the first rain we experienced a small leak at a skylight. I contacted Greg and early the next morning a member of the crew arrived anxious to repair it. Due to the unsafe (slippery ice) conditions, the repair had to be postponed until the weather improved a few days later. The leak was repaired and we've experienced no further problems. Greg's daughter even came by approximately three weeks later to follow up in a customer-service / quality control capacity asking if there were any areas for improvement. To summarize, we are very happy with our overall experience and would highly recommend them to anyone."

"I needed a roof repair and was tired of having to patch up every other week it felt like. I had some quotes to replace the roof and luckily I found Ryan who helped me save 1/2 of the cost on a roof replacement! Then with his services coming with a warranty just made sense."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

No, you should not close or cover your gable vents in the winter. While it might seem logical to block cold air, heating your home creates hot air that rises and can cause condensation in the attic. If the vents are covered, this moisture becomes trapped, creating an ideal environment for mold and mildew. Keeping the gable vents open ensures proper ventilation, which helps dry out the attic, maintain even temperatures, and prevent moisture-related damage.

Thatched roofs are expensive for two main reasons: high labor costs and low supply of available roofers. The labor is more intensive for a thatched roof than other roof materials, so your contractor will work longer and charge more for the installation. There are also few professionals with the specialized skills and experience to install thatched roofs. Since the supply of available professionals is low, the cost of compensation is high.

To apply for a roofing permit, contact your local building authority. You may visit their office in person or contact them via phone or email. For more information on how to start the process, visit their website.

Technically speaking, yes, verbal agreements and “handshake deals” can be legally binding contracts that will hold up in court, but the suing party will need to be able to prove that the parties entered into the contract. Even though verbal and handshake deals can be binding, it’s risky to rely on these types of agreements for anything, including roofing projects. Always aim to get your contract in writing, and make sure it includes all terms and that you don’t agree to additional terms that don’t appear in the contract.

Walking on an asbestos roof can pose a risk. Asbestos roofing materials can become brittle over time, increasing the chances of them breaking or releasing fibers when stepped on. Additionally, walking on an asbestos roof without proper precautions can cause further damage to the material. If possible, avoid touching an asbestos roof in any way and consult with a professional about removing and replacing the roof.
