"Star Windows did an excellent job replacing a tricky shattered window in my basement window well. They came out within 24 hrs to give me an estimate - and fixed the whole thing the next business day. Excellent communication, very friendly and professional service...would definitely use again!"

"Very prompt and priced competitively to the major egress window installer in the Kansas City area. They provided a fair and prompt quote, showed up when they said they would and finished the job on time. They also come back a week after the install to add dirt around the egress window outlet after it has settled. I've recommended them and would hire them again."

"I am so happy with the work that Cornerstone did on our windows. After dealing with several lengthy, high-pressure sales pitches from other companies, Derrick from Cornerstone was a breath of fresh air. He came out in May and was able to quickly give me multiple options for the best products for my house. I appreciated that he did not try to upsell me, while still showing me high-quality products to choose from. The windows came in early July, but I had to postpone the installation until 7/27, and Cornerstone was so flexible about the schedule. The crew showed up promptly and worked efficiently without cutting corners, they were friendly, and they did a great job cleaning up after. We noticed an immediate difference in the temperature and comfort of our home as soon as they were done. I was also impressed that one of the owners called me the following Monday to make sure we were satisfied. We received stellar customer service, high quality work, and an excellent finished product from Cornerstone. I would highly recommend them for any window replacement project!"

"There were a couple concerns when the project was first completed. I called the company and the owner came on a Saturday to resolve the issue. He even took out of pocket to purchase a few items. He took time to explain what he was doing and finished the project superbly. I m completely satisfied"

Window Shutters questions, answered by experts

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.

Estate shutters offer more energy efficiency, privacy, and light control than blinds. They provide better insulation against heat and cold, lowering your energy bills. They’re also sturdy, durable, and last much longer than blinds (up to 50 years or longer). They’re also low-maintenance and can add curb appeal to your home. The return on investment (ROI) for estate shutters is around 75%.

The most popular estate shutter brands include Hunter Douglas, Budget Blinds®, and Graber®. Hunter Douglas shutters cost $20 to $26 per square foot and include high-quality hardwood and faux wood options. Budget Blinds shutters cost $20 to $24 per square foot, depending on if you choose natural wood or another material. Depending on the material, Graber shutters range from $18 to $24 per square foot.

Plantation shutters cost an average of $2,990, making them one of the pricier shutter options. However, they offer a 75% return on your investment and are great options for boosting curb appeal and property value. Most people go for plantation shutters for their timeless, vintage look. They also provide the strongest light blocking and temperature control for your home.
