"Evan fixed 2 of my outlets, had a carpet head to sell me to replace my broken one (YAY!) , macgyvered my existing hose with some electrical tape so that I may get a little more life out of it (Double YAY!) and checked out my base unit in garage to ensure all was in working order. Minor detail in retrospect- he was 15-20 min late. But once he arrived and fixed my repairs in a timely manner I was glad for the wait."

"John was very knowledgeable about my central vacuum. He came in and immediately figured out what was wrong with my vacuum and fixed it. He is a very friendly man. He even checked out my unit in the basement to make sure it was working properly. He cleaned the unit and the filter. I would refer him to my family and friends."

"Everything went great. They showed up in the morning and had everything ready to go by about 3:00pm. We replaced an 80% efficient furnace and 10 SEER A/C with the Carrier Infinity 98% efficient and 16 SEER A/C. Because the furnace is a high efficiency condensing gas model it requires PVC intake and exhaust piping. We agreed on a suitable location out the side of the house for the new piping. The install went well. They even fixed an existing return duct in the basement that was blocked off. The basement heats/cools so much better now. In fact, we have 2-story home and the whole house is more comfortable. There's not as much stratification of the temperatures from level to level. As far as the equipment it seems to be running great. Both the furnace and A/C are 2-stage units. This means they operate at two different output levels. The thermostat is the Carrier Infinity Control with WiFi. We had a Nest with our old system, but it is not compatible with the Carrier Infinity line because of the complex controls needed to operate the system. That's okay. This new thermostat is much better anyway. It requires a proprietary communication data bus because it is constantly monitoring the state of the various components (furnace, A/C compressor, ECM fan motor, evaporator coil, etc.) and adjusting the control parameters continuously for optimal performance and efficiency. It will even put the A/C in dehumidify mode where it lowers the air flow across the evaporator coil to more effectively pull water out of the air. We are pleased enough with the system that we'd never use anything other than a high efficiency 2-stage (or even fully modulating) system when/if we ever need to replace things again in the future. This is our second positive experience with these guys. We will continue to use them for any future needs."

"I've had my unit over 3 years it was due for my yearly inspection that's included in my warranty. Steve came out and checked my unit out said everything was working well and asked me about the water leak from the Overflow which I didn't call in should have but didn't. I'm a hard learner. He checked it out found the problem ordered the part through the company( was not a problem within the unit) it was a part connected to the pipe for the Overflow. didn't take long for the part to come in, they sent out a repairman fix the repair on the leak. The next day I woke up no heat called Antone explaining I had no heat they said they'd send somebody out that day now you know if it was another company it would have been like this. well we have to give you an appointment cuz all are repairman our out on calls that's not how it goes with Anton I requested Steve to come out, within 40 minutes he was at my door went downstairs he new exactly what the problem was. It was a Minor error within the repairman from the prior day, fixed it in within 5 min. had heat. Told me exactly what happened. A little bit about Steve he is dedicated to his work a valuable employee very respectful tells me exactly what's going on and what he looked over and answers all my questions and actually helps me with my Control Systems upstairs I'm not good at setting it to my likings. If you're looking for a company and tone is the company to go to. A shout out to you Steve."

"We found SmartHouse almost by accident while looking for solutions to what turned out to be botched previous AC installation by a much bigger and more established company who we had trusted to do a decent job. Instead we ended up with a system that wouldn't cool the house. Smarthouse first correctly diagnosed the problem, then fixed it, and advised us on how best to heat and cool our 100+ old house. We now have a service contract with them for regular maintenance and they recently installed a mini-split for us. Their techs are great. Just the sort of people we would feel comfortable leaving alone in the house to finish a job if necessary."

"The work was completed to my satisfaction. My major problem was the call center that is handling this company’s appointments. She told me a price for a service call and labor and when the job was complete it was three times higher then what she told me on the phone. She also did not make my appointment correctly. I told her I needed someone ASAP she put it in the system as an appointment to be gotten to anytime. So I basically wasted a whole Nother entire day without gas service because she had no idea what she was doing. After work was completed we did settle on a price but it was still more than I was told."

Central Vacuum Systems questions, answered by experts

If your central vacuum has lost suction, you probably have a clog in the system. You can remove a clog yourself using a portable vacuum cleaner or central vacuum maintenance sheets. Stubborn clogs or damage to the system require a specialized technician to repair.

Yes, installing a central vacuum system typically adds value to your home. The ease of use, longevity, and superior suction power of a central vacuum system can add up to $2,000 to your home’s value if you decide to sell. Potential buyers may consider the central vacuum a perk to purchasing your home.

No. Only the hose or the attachments are portable in a central vacuum system. A portable vacuum is a standalone model like a stick, canister, or upright. A central vacuum system is defined by a central power unit, which is installed in one place like an AC unit, and the connected network of piping to funnel the suction.

They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.

While caulking is handy for quite a bit of jobs, it’s still limited. Any crack or gap larger than 1/4 inch is best left for a more intensive repair job. When you hire house painters, they should run a thorough check to see what they need to repair before they start the job.

Large repairs that caulking typically won’t do well with include cracks or holes larger than a 1/4 inch, rotted wood, or metal surfaces, such as garage doors.
