"We chose Standard Plumbing and Heating on the recommendation of a friend who had a new furnace and water heater installed as well as the great reviews we found online. Standard Plumbing and Heating was so professional and helpful. Cody came to our home to look at our existing units and to help us understand which furnace and water heater would be the best for our home. He was prompt, extremely knowledgable and personable. The installers were kind and courteous and made sure to protect our carpet and walls while carrying and installing the new furnace and water heater. The communication, customer service, and installation were first rate; and we will be recommending Standard Heating and Cooling to our friends and family. We also appreciate that it is a local, family-owned business with long history and substantial ties to our community."

"Installed a new furnace for us during the winter when we needed it the most. They were able to install it 2 days after we asked for them to service our old existing furnace in which they showed us why it needed to be replaced. Quick and clean instillation with two knowledgeable and friendly employees."

"I recently had Prolific Mechanical install a new air conditioning system, and I couldn't be happier with the results. The young man who completed the installation was professional, courteous, and extremely knowledgeable. He took pride in his work, kept everything clean, and made sure the installation was done correctly from start to finish. The new system runs flawlessly and keeps the house comfortable even on the hottest days. I highly recommend Prolific Mechanical to anyone looking for quality workmanship and dependable HVAC service."

"I came home from camping on a Sunday night, got in the shower, and quickly discovered there was no hot water in the house. Further investigation brought me to the basement, where I found water coming out from the bottom of the water heater, and a motor continuously trying to run. I shut off the water heater and called and left a message for Randy Lane on Sunday night around 7pm. I talked to them Monday morning and arranged to have them come out Tuesday afternoon at 2:30. They called and said they were going to be 2 hours late, but ended up only being an hour late. That was okay. Shortly after they arrived, they had to run out and get a different water heater at the warehouse (note special venting mentioned above). They didn't charge us for their travel time. They got it installed in about an hour, and were on their way. Shortly after they left, we saw a small leak on the cold water inlet side. We called and they came back in the morning and fixed the leak. When I went to shower the next morning (before they came), I noticed again that we had cold water. As it turns out, they had forgotten to turn on the heater after the leak repair. The next day I noticed a big rust stain on the driveway. I'm assuming it was from rust from the old heater. It doesn't look like they tried to sweep it up. We had a couple of other projects we wanted to have done when they were here. They were on the call sheet (the one the scheduler fills out). We had a kitchen sink where the hot water ran slow and a tub faucet that needed to be replaced. These didn't get addressed, because it seemed like the guys were in a hurry to get done with their work day. They said we'd have to call and make another appointment to get the other work done. They didn't even make a quote for the work. The water heater is a good water heater, and we haven't had any issues since we got the leak fixed. We're going to use someone else for the other jobs, because it seemed like they were too busy to deal with the other stuff."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Depending on the size of your home and system, as well as any upgrades or add-ons you choose, it may take between three and five days to completely replace an existing HVAC system from start to finish. Your contractor should be able to give you an estimate before they begin the actual replacement.

The primary differences between a heat pump and a boiler are their function and how they produce heat. A heat pump is a versatile system that provides both heating and cooling by moving ambient air and altering its temperature. In contrast, a boiler is solely a heating system, often working with a furnace or AC unit as part of a larger HVAC system. In terms of heat production, a heat pump generates heat more slowly and at a lower temperature, requiring a large convector for distribution. A boiler, however, produces a large amount of high-temperature heat that it emits through smaller radiators.

Yes. Boilers need water to run without overheating, also known as dry firing. If you run it without a sufficient volume of water, either because of a burst pipe or a leak, you run the risk of damaging your machine or jeopardizing the safety of your home as a whole. When in doubt, shut off your boiler and repair any plumbing issues before turning it back on. Alternatively, consider installing a low-water cutoff (LWCO) before any issues arise. This gadget will protect your boiler by monitoring water levels and automatically shutting it off if it gets too low.

Costs depend on issue severity, parts needed, and labor rates.

Overall, heating your home with an oil furnace tends to be less expensive than heating your home with an electric heating system. Oil heating systems stay warm for longer periods of time without drawing a constant electrical current to maintain a temperature. Plus, heating oil systems typically have a longer lifespan and lower price tag than their electrical counterparts, resulting in short- and long-term savings.
