Small jobs welcome

"I called them to replace a switch that was not the one I wanted. Left messages with two electricians s from Affordable Electric who worked on my house. I have received no response from them to correct the issue. I am very disappointed with Affordable Electric lack of customer service and follow up."

Customers say: Quick response

"Several electricians turned down the job because it was too small but Adam jumped at the chance and did a thorough job. He was running late so he had another electrician show up on time to start the job. I ended up getting two electricians for the price of one. Adam is definitely on our go-to list for electrical issues."

Hero Plumbing, Heating & Cooling has been a family tradition for over 100 years. In 1914, Harry C. Ridler started the company in South Minneapolis which led to the company name Uptown. Pete Savage worked for the Ridler family in the 1970s, and in 1982 Pete had the incredible opportunity to purchase it. In 2010, using the money they saved while Josh was in Iraq as a down payment, Sheree and Josh took out an SBA loan and purchased Hero Plumbing, Heating & Cooling from Josh’s father. At that time, Hero had 4 employees and focused on serving Minneapolis. Today, Hero has over 150 amazing men and women working with us and we’ve expanded our service area to cover the entire Twin Cities metro.

"It went extremely well; better than my expectations since I have a tendency to be skeptical about making sizable investments regarding equipment with which I am not fully familiar. Eric actually showed me what was wrong. He tested my water with a "portable lab" system, but then we went down to the basement and he literally took my softer apart and showed me the condition of the media beads - which instead of being a golden color, were coated black. He also showed me that about two cubic feet of media was missing! He checked the setting of the unit, and showed what they were versus what they should have been. Finally he showed me how difficult it was to turn the control dial which a small motor must do to cycle the unit through the flushing cycle. By the end of his visit, I was convinced I had a real problem. Eric gave me all the options, including the features and benefits of each. Even though he said I could have the unit reconditioned and have a warranty (shorter than on a new unit) on its performance, I opted for a new unit with the longer warranty and electricity free operation."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Your Savage home is well-suited for electrical upgrades if it has a modern 200-amp panel with available breaker slots, copper wiring in good condition, and accessible unfinished basement or attic spaces. Homes built after 1990 typically support upgrades more easily. Larger lots and dedicated circuits for garages or workshops are beneficial, and if you’re considering solar or EV charging, a south-facing roof and updated panel are ideal.

Helpful?

In Savage, homes built before 1970 may have knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring, which complicates electrical upgrades and panel replacement. Split-level and rambler layouts, especially those with finished basements or multiple additions, can make accessing wiring and panels more challenging. Concrete slab foundations and vaulted ceilings in newer Savage neighborhoods often restrict wiring routes, so always check for hidden access points behind finished walls or ceilings.

Helpful?

Be wary of unusually low quotes, as these may indicate shortcuts or lack of proper licensing. Avoid contractors who insist on cash-only payments, refuse to provide detailed written estimates, or pressure you to make quick decisions. Lack of local references, unfamiliarity with Minnesota electrical codes, or reluctance to obtain permits are warning signs. Always confirm the electrician has a permanent business address in the Savage area.

Helpful?

Begin by scheduling a thorough evaluation with a local electrician who understands Savage housing trends and Minnesota electrical codes. Secure all necessary permits through the city’s building department, and plan for required inspections. Coordinate any needed utility disconnects in advance, especially for major electrical upgrades. For larger projects, arrange temporary power solutions and coordinate timelines with other contractors to avoid delays during peak spring and summer seasons.

Helpful?

In Savage, frequent breaker trips, flickering lights, or warm outlets suggest potential safety issues requiring attention. Exposed or overcrowded junction boxes, mismatched wire gauges, and poor cable management are signs of substandard workmanship. Watch for evidence of moisture or freeze damage, especially in basements or exterior components. Missing permits or inspection certificates indicate the need for a professional review and possible electrical upgrades.
