"We had them replace plumbing fixtures in our bathroom remodel and install in-line water heater to provide point of use hot water to a distant bathroom from our water heater. In addition, they replaced a deteriorating concrete laundry tub and replaced a shut-off valve for an outdoor water faucet that was leaking."

"I needed to have this changed before the new stove was installed in a couple of days and thought I could have the ceiling fan in one of the rooms replaced (since they charge a trip fee, I wanted to take advantage of it and they were having a deal for 99.00 ceiling fan installation. Richard installed 2 new outlets and the ceiling fan in just under 3 hours. I believed the price to be reasonable but I didn't have much to compare that to because honestly there is something to be said for piece of mind, and confidence in the person doing this kind of work. I am an Angie's List Member and I contacted Randy's Electric via the Angie's List app on a Sunday and received a quick reply from Courtney ON A SUNDAY! They were able to get me on the schedule very quickly. The service is excellent! Richard was actually the electrician who came back to the house again to help with this project. As a female home owner, I have been subject to some companies (particularly a large local company that "specializes" in HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical) taking advantage of my lack of knowledge or understanding but this is not the case with Randy's. Richard walked through my options, offered suggestions and showed me what he had done when he finished. Great service, great company, you will have a customer for life, because lets face it, my house was built in the 40's- this won't be the first time I need electrical help!"

"Called them on Monday morning because water heater was discharging. By early afternoon Jon showed up. Diagnosed problem to be related to very high water pressure (nearly 80 psi). Installed pressure reduction valve and pressure tank. I had called water heater manufacturer and this was the remedy they suggested so I knew Jon was doing what was recommended. However, within a few hours the tank again discharged lots of hot water. I called Jon and he arranged for a new control component to be sent under warranty by the manufacturer. Early Wednesday morning Jon installed the new component and we thought all was well. However Thursday morning found hot water flowing from the discharge pipe once again. Notified Jon and he returned and installed a new overflow valve. He also rigged up PVC pipe to direct water to the drain in the event it happened again. It has been over a week now and the water heater seems to be performing as it should. While I was not happy that it took multiple tries to fix the darn thing, I know Jon was following the recommended protocols and did so in a professional manner. He was very responsive and empathetic. He checked in with me numerous time to see if there we problems. He was genuinely interested in solving the problem and eventually did."

"Honest, knowledgeable, reliable. We needed a water heater replaced that went bad. They not only replaced the water heater asap but also found the reason it went bad. We had a bad pressure tank on the well. All done extremely fast and professionally. Would highly recommend for any of your plumbing needs. Scott."

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

A larger heater requires a larger breaker—unless there’s one already installed. The longer answer to this question is more nuanced. Do you place demands on the heater at the same time as running other heavy-duty appliances like ovens and washing machines? Do you live in an older home that may not have considered the higher electrical demands we have now? Breakers need to be sized at 125% of the load. To find that load, you should call a local electrical pro.

The lifespan of a water heater depends on its type, usage, and maintenance schedule. Traditional tank-style water heaters typically last between 8 and 12 years, though the range can be as wide as 6 to 15 years. Within this category, gas models often last 8-12 years, while electric models may last 10-15 years. In contrast, tankless water heaters have a significantly longer lifespan, often lasting up to 20 years or more. Factors like heavy usage, hard water, and sediment buildup can shorten a unit's life. To extend its lifespan, it is crucial to perform regular maintenance, such as flushing the tank annually and scheduling professional inspections. If your unit is over a decade old and shows signs of rust, leaks, strange noises, or inconsistent heating, it is likely time for a replacement.

While heat pump water heaters are more expensive than gas-powered water heaters, the ROI is higher for heat pump units. Not only are heat pump water heaters more energy efficient, meaning immediate savings on your energy bill, but they also last longer than traditional gas versions, meaning you won't have to buy them as often.

Installing a water heater without a permit can result in high fines—as much as hundreds of dollars per day, in some areas. It can also void your homeowners' insurance and cause problems when selling your home because it violates local building codes and safety regulations.

You can and should vent the gas from your hot water heater to the outside of your home. Traditionally, these gases were vented back to other gas appliances, like stoves or furnaces, but many jurisdictions have outlawed this practice due to the risks it provides.

Most water heaters today use atmospheric venting that exhausts the gas out of the home through a pipe.
