"I bought an Angie's List deal from All Day Haul Away for $99 (prepaid); they said by phone that my oversized piece would probably require an extra charge. Four months later when I called for a pickup, it was made by a business called Junk Genius (a subcontractor of All Day Haul Away?). Junk Genius's standard charge is $95, slightly less than the cost of the Angie's List deal I had already paid. Junk Genius said nothing about the load being oversized. Next time, I would try calling Junk Genius first."

Small jobs welcome

"Jeremiah was great from the start, from booking, clear layout of estimate and confirmation of pick-up. Showed up on time, with business cards and kindness. He cleared out what I asked and was very efficient at doing so. I will absolutely use his services again and refer him to anyone asking for help with removal. Thanks Jeremiah!!"

"They were hired to trim & shape 5 trees and remove and grind the stumps of 3 shrubs. The trees looked very nice when they finished and they did a thorough cleanup. Would definitely hire them again."

"We called two days prior to needing them to pick up the last few items which needed to be hauled away to clean out the house we had sold. We had an old couch in the basement and various items (old boards, tile, old hoses....etc) in the garage. They were scheduled to be at the house at 5pm but they called and said traffic was bad and would be a bit late. That was perfect for us as we needed an extra hour to completely clean out the house. They arrived around 6:15pm and loaded all the items into their truck (including getting the sofa out of the basement) in just a few minutes and we were all set. Very easy to work with and good communication. And the total cost was $200. Very reasonable and cheapest junk hauling I found. Would definitely recommend their service."

"They were wonderful with clean up and came on time. They were efficient and the price was exactly what they quoted. It only took them a day to get this done. We were pleased with the total job."

Garbage Collection questions, answered by experts

No, you do not need a garbage disposal to have a dishwasher. A dishwasher will work without one, and while it's rare to see a home with a dishwasher that doesn't have a disposal, it is possible. The two appliances pair well and are often installed together because a disposal simplifies meal cleanup.

However, your dishwasher should not be used as a replacement for a garbage disposal. Subjecting it to continuous food leftovers can lead to major clogs. If you choose not to install a garbage disposal, you should thoroughly rinse your plates or scrape excess food into the trash or a compost pile before loading them into the dishwasher to prevent plumbing issues.

You may be able to install a garbage disposal on your own, especially if you're handy or have some experience with plumbing. However, if you have any concerns or want to make absolutely sure that the connections are installed correctly, you may be better off hiring a local garbage disposal installer to do the job.

Garbage disposals are durable appliances that usually last at least eight years as long as you clean and maintain them. It’s relatively rare for a garbage disposal to break on its own, as most malfunctions happen due to user errors, like overstuffing the grinding compartment or damaging the blades by trying to dispose of metal or bone. Eventually, cracks or leaks could develop in the unit, which requires a full replacement.

The most common garbage disposal size in the U.S. is 1/2 horsepower. This size is ideal for households with three or fewer people or those that don't produce much food waste. Although 1/2 horsepower can't handle the typical food waste load for a household of four (which is about 250 pounds of food waste annually) as effectively as 3/4 horsepower, it remains the most common size of garbage disposal on the market.

Soil is just one of the items you shouldn't put down a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are only meant for soft, non-fibrous foods. Large amounts of topsoil, dirt, or rocks will damage the blades of your garbage disposal or clog the pipes. If a small amount of dirt goes down the drain as you repot a plant, you shouldn't have to worry, but never dump a whole pot of soil in the sink for fast disposal.
