"Jeff Cordes was prompted at returning calls, did a quality job of smow removal of my driveway for 12" snowfall. Cleared areas as requested and sent photo to confirm work was done allowing feedback before he left the jobsite. Great customer service and reasonably priced."

Customers say: Quick response

"Sonney came and did our windows and I am so pleased. GREAT work. He was super kind, friendly, and just fantastic with our pup when he was inside with us and the dog. Our pup can be a handful sometimes and the fact that this didn’t bother him at all was a cherry on top! He cleaned both top and main floors, inside and out, cleaned up after himself, and was very courteous. He played some light music which we loved, too! Really just a great guy and great job. We are satisfied and would recommend! Hope to hire them again for the next time we need our windows cleaned."

"We had 4 separate bids on our lighting project and chose Holiday Lighting & Design based on their competitive pricing, professionalism and friendliness. Our lights were custom strung and hung and looked great. Cords were creatively hidden and we had a beautifully decorated home for the holidays."

"It went great. Windows looked like brand new and stayed that way much longer than expected. Our entire house was pressure washed, but Matthew did not like how it looked while drying so he stayed multiple hours longer that he needed to make it right. I would definitely recommend and/or hire again."

Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts

Technically, you can use duct tape to hang Christmas lights, but it’s not the best bet. Duct tape or other types of tape retain moisture, which isn’t ideal when near an electrical wire. Plus, it can peel off due to the elements. Duct tape is also a very unattractive option, visually speaking. Instead, opt for roof clips for Christmas lights, which are affordable and easy to use.

There are several ways to hang Christmas lights safely. Here are some key Christmas light safety tips to keep in mind:

  • Always use Christmas lights and extension cords that are rated for outdoor use.

  • Don’t overload outlets by plugging in too many lights.

  • Opt for LED lights for a safer display that saves on energy costs.

  • Do not use old or broken Christmas lights.

No, you should not leave LED Christmas lights up all year. While the LED lights themselves are very durable, their wiring and casings can be as vulnerable as any Christmas lights. They’re subject to drying out, experiencing cold or sun damage that causes them to crack, and even damage caused by gnawing pests. (The same is true of incandescents.) If you want your lights to last the years that they’re rated for, bring them inside after Christmas is over.

In the Christmas days of yore, people braved winter weather to staple or tack their Christmas lights onto their rooftops or nearby surfaces like the fascia boards. Problems quickly emerged with that approach. Damage to the roof, even small marks from staples, provides entryways for moisture and similar issues that can hasten roof rot, wear, and associated leaks. Plus, some homes had tough fiber cement boards or other materials where staples and screws didn’t work.

It’s not a good idea to mix LED and incandescent Christmas lights if you can avoid it. LEDs and incandescents can have significantly different electrical current needs. This difference can lead to a higher risk of problems and failure for both light strands. When possible, switch all your lights over to one kind or the other for the best results. Do not connect the different types of light strings to each other, and avoid linking them to the same circuit.
