"From the moment they confirmed my appointment, to the time they left my house smiling and wishing me well, the gentlemen from Randy's Electric proved that they are the ONLY electrical service that I will ever need! Their estimated arrival time was between 10:00 am and 12 noon. Fortunately, I did not have to put my life on hold for 2 hours to wait for them. Shortly before 10:00 am, Jeremy called to let me know that they were in my neighborhood. He gave me an accurate arrival time. Wonderful! Even though I consider myself a messy housekeeper, both Jeremy and JD treated me with friendly respect. They left absolutely no junk behind! My 80-pound dog (very territorial) barked at them when they arrived, but they miraculously calmed her down. Within minutes, these experts restored 3 nonfunctioning indoor outlets to perfect working condition . . . wow! In less than one hour, they completely replaced a dead exterior outlet, rendering it much safer and easier to use. Amazingly, they had all the specialized parts in their truck! An average handyman would have taken weeks to order and acquire the necessary gizmos. The expertise and interpersonal skills of these 2 gentlemen exceeded my highest expectations! The price? Totally affordable, and precisely equal to their honest estimate. Randy's Electric is my TOP choice for all future electrical needs."

"Ronnie was very pleasant and professional. The job was done quickly and the cost was reasonable. I needed a new kitchen faucet. I had some other unrelated questions and he looked at the items and was very helpful. He also did a nice job cleaning up after the job. I would definitely hire him again and would recommend him to anyone needing a plumber."

"We needed a repair because the water heater was shutting down every few days, there was an error code from one of the sensors. The company was very responsive - I called them in the morning and they were here in the afternoon. The repairman was able to fix the problem without needing to get new parts, so that was also good. My issue with WHN was I felt that the service was overpriced. They charged us $119 to show up and diagnose the problem, and then it was $225 in labor (their hourly rate, and they charge the full hour at a minimum). So the repairman spent a half an hour here, and we were charged $344. And yes, in fairness they informed us of these charge prior, but as we got into the process we just thought we'd bite the bullet and get it done. At the same time, we didn't feel the pricing was really fair and think these rates are a lot higher than what seem to be comparable services like plumbing. In fact we just had a plumber here for about an hour of his time and it was about $200. Now, it's possible that WHN's pricing is set at a premium because of cases where the water heater is completely non-functioning and in need of same day service. But this was not the case here, it was more of an intermittent problem. For this reason, I would look for someone else if in a similar situation again."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

The longevity of plumbing work relies heavily on burying underground pipes below the deep MN frost line to prevent freezing. Success also depends on securing proper permits and passing municipal inspections. Choose pipe materials compatible with the hard water in Mound and actively manage mineral scaling. Ensure adequate pipe insulation in older converted cottages. Integrate your sump system properly with drainage tiles to protect your home from high water tables.

Helpful?

You must decide whether to pull your own city permit or have a licensed professional handle it. You also need to confirm your sump pump discharge route complies with Mound regulations. For older homes, determine the scope of pipe replacement and choose a winterization strategy for unheated spaces. Because of hard water in MN, decide on water softener installations or bypass arrangements during the plumbing process. Coordinate your schedule for mandatory city inspections.

Helpful?

Proper plumbing maintenance requires annual sump pump testing and pit cleaning before spring snowmelt in Mound. Flush your water heater yearly to remove heavy mineral sediment caused by hard water. Disconnect all exterior hoses every fall and inspect heat tape in unheated spaces to prevent freezing. Replenish your water softener salt regularly. Schedule periodic camera inspections and drain cleaning for aging sewer laterals to clear root intrusions from mature lakeshore trees.

Helpful?

Before scheduling plumbing services, document whether your property uses Mound municipal water and sewer or a private well and septic system. Note the location of your main water shutoff valve and your sump pump discharge route. Check your permit history and identify your pipe materials, especially in older converted lake cottages. Document any exterior lines or unheated spaces that experience freezing during MN winters to help professionals scope the project accurately.

Helpful?

Ignoring hard water buildup accelerates the deterioration of fixtures and pipe joints. Leaving garden hoses attached to exterior bibs traps water, causing severe freeze damage during harsh MN winters. Pouring grease down the drains of older mid-century homes damages cast iron pipes. Failing to maintain your sump pump risks catastrophic flooding during spring snowmelt in Mound. Delaying your response to lost heat causes pipes to freeze rapidly, leading to major property damage.
