"Ronnie was very pleasant and professional. The job was done quickly and the cost was reasonable. I needed a new kitchen faucet. I had some other unrelated questions and he looked at the items and was very helpful. He also did a nice job cleaning up after the job. I would definitely hire him again and would recommend him to anyone needing a plumber."

"We needed a repair because the water heater was shutting down every few days, there was an error code from one of the sensors. The company was very responsive - I called them in the morning and they were here in the afternoon. The repairman was able to fix the problem without needing to get new parts, so that was also good. My issue with WHN was I felt that the service was overpriced. They charged us $119 to show up and diagnose the problem, and then it was $225 in labor (their hourly rate, and they charge the full hour at a minimum). So the repairman spent a half an hour here, and we were charged $344. And yes, in fairness they informed us of these charge prior, but as we got into the process we just thought we'd bite the bullet and get it done. At the same time, we didn't feel the pricing was really fair and think these rates are a lot higher than what seem to be comparable services like plumbing. In fact we just had a plumber here for about an hour of his time and it was about $200. Now, it's possible that WHN's pricing is set at a premium because of cases where the water heater is completely non-functioning and in need of same day service. But this was not the case here, it was more of an intermittent problem. For this reason, I would look for someone else if in a similar situation again."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

Before starting plumbing in MN, contact your local building department to confirm permit requirements. You must call the state utility locating service three days prior to any excavation to identify underground hazards. Request connection records from the city to uncover hidden right-of-way easements or existing lead service lines. Finally, hire a licensed contractor and schedule underground work before mid-October to avoid the immense complications of digging through frozen ground.

Helpful?

After finishing plumbing in Excelsior, schedule a final inspection to close your permit. Flush your interior supply pipes to clear out sediment, especially if older lines were disturbed. Verify your sump pump operates correctly to handle the high water table near Lake Minnetonka. Finally, inspect unheated areas and add proper insulation to your pipes before the first hard freeze hits in mid-October to prevent severe winter damage.

Helpful?

Underground supply lines require strict attention during plumbing in Excelsior. Failing to bury pipes below the deep forty-two-inch frost line guarantees frozen lines. Incorrect slope angles on sewer laterals cause chronic blockages. Furthermore, improper gas water heater venting creates serious safety hazards. Always insulate pipes routed through unheated crawl spaces or rim joists to prevent bursts during a polar vortex, and ensure all city infrastructure connections meet strict local standards.

Helpful?

Ignoring hard water shortens the lifespan of plumbing across MN. The local limestone aquifers cause scale buildup that destroys pipes and water heaters without proper softening. Leaving garden hoses connected through the fall also causes severe freeze-thaw stress. Additionally, flushing grease or wipes quickly ruins the aging clay sewer lines found in older neighborhoods. Address slow drains immediately, as they indicate underground pipe settlement from seasonal ground movement.

Helpful?

Timelines for plumbing in Excelsior vary by the project scale. Minor repairs take a single day, while bathroom remodels require three to seven days of active work. Replacing a water service line takes one to two days of labor, but permit processing and inspection gaps extend the total duration to four weeks. Schedule your work outside the spring and early fall demand surges to avoid a three-week delay.
