"Had a great experience with Bruce and Shane. Highly communicative and clear - went above and beyond to check for siding issues around the entire exterior of the house after repairing the issue that we noticed. Would absolutely hire again."

"I wanted to receive quotes for a siding project from several companies and debella debt out Blake & Brady for the initial quote. They were very friendly and professional and unlike other companies respected the fact I wanted to do this in February. They were very supportive and didn't try to pressure a same day sale. The actually spent over 5 hours at my home going over all the details and answering my questions. The found the right serv6fir me within my budget so I signed up now for them to start in February. They are one of only 2 actual certified james hardie color plus installers in idaho in I feel confident they will do a fantastic job."

"Working with the teams that completed the actual work on my new siding, roof, and gutters were great! However, dealing with the sales managers in the office was incredibly disappointing. I was told my contract was *all inclusive* when I signed, yet my drip edges were not replaced and then I was told that they were not in the contract. Then my gutters needed an additional 25 that was not in the contract. An additional $250 later, and all was done. No concessions, no apologies for their mistakes."

"I will call this “The Good, The Bad and the Ugly review” as I am breaking this review into the 3 teams that we had – 2 very good and done quickly and 1 inferior with the most time spent at our house – thus the overall 3 star grade. The Good • Roofing Team – Grade: A. Efficient, good job, found virtually no nails or roofing materials on the ground • Gutters – Grade: A. One man crew but he knew what he was doing and provided good suggestions for modifying our water flow. The Bad • Siding & Window Team – Grade: C to D. Not sure how they were trained but they didn’t seem to understand some common construction basics. A few of the many examples – o They nailed the siding on wrong and had to start over. o They almost ripped the 120V electrical outlet off the house without turning off the breaker but it was the weekend and we happened to be in the garden and saw them. o Installed the dryer vent wrong twice – once painting it shut and the next time putting on a vent with a label on it saying “not for use with clothes dryers” due to the pre-installed screen. The Ugly • Siding & Window Team – Used caulk as touch up paint on LP Smartside (or just used the siding to clean off their dirty fingers?) – leaving random “chicken pox marks” all over new siding. Garage, driveway and all 4 sides of our house were filled with equipment and garbage for the length of the project. Not the crew to have if you have children or pets – they left old saw blades and other sharp objects around the garage entrance and the house. I didn’t expect a spotless home every night but I didn’t expect to be living with this much disarray with minimal clean up each night, even after asking the supervisor to improve pickup of at least garbage and sharp objects in the garage and the common walking paths. Nor did we expect to be spending our fall cleaning caulk off the “maintenance free” siding and re-painting it and installing our outside boxes correctly. I will give the owner credit for realizing that his siding and window crew did inferior work and giving us a discount on our bill. None-the-less, I am rating the services provided based on the quality of the work done."

"Ivan was very easy to work with. He returned calls and emails promptly. We did have to negotiate a bit on what I wanted versus what they initially built but I am happy with the nice side porch. They also put on an entry door and a screen door. I would recommend this company."

"The roof part was great. I'd recommend them for a roof any time. This is the second time they've done a roof for us (they replaced the roof on our house about 10 years ago), and they did a fine job: fast, neat, no problems.
The siding was another matter. They did a terrible job on the trim, they argued with me when I pointed out things that needed to be fixed, and several times they lied to me about what was and was not possible. It was terrible customer service, and very bad detail work. It there was a project manager (I never met him or saw him), he signed off on substandard work. And If there wasn't a project manager, well, there should have been. This was an expensive job--$11,000. They should have paid better attention and been more responsive.
I don't think Walker Roofing is terribly experienced with Hardie Plank (there were many things they told us that turned out to not be true) and while the garage looks just fine from a distance, up close you can see many problems. None of the problems are structural; the garage will hold up just fine. They are, however, cosmetic.
For instance:
1) The trim at the corners and around the windows is dented in many places, I presume from the nail gun.
2) Instead of finishing nails, which would be invisible, they used big galvanized nails (and told us those were required for the job).
Those big nails are not required. (I looked up the Hardie Plank specifications on the Web.) They could have (and should have) used finishing nails, but did not--perhaps because finishing nails would take longer and require more work, since they need to be hand-nailed rather than nail-gunned.
So we came home to dented trim with big silver nail heads every few feet, gleaming out from the white trim.
3) They would not paint over the nailheads unless we paid them more money. They also gave us a big song and dance about the inability to match the paint color---so convoluted and contradictory that I can't even reproduce the conversation here.  So in the end we painted the nailheads ourselves. Terrible customer service. And the trim is still dented.
4) When they replaced the trim around the doors, they only replaced some of it--the trim that faces out. They did not replace the trim inside the doorway but just left the old rotten trim. When I complained, they argued and said they couldn't replace it without ripping off all of the work that they had already done.  (Not true. And the next day they replaced it.  But I really do not like first having to monitor them, then having to complain, and then having to argue.)
5) The trim the initially put up around the window was not what we had asked for---it was nearly 6-inches wide, all the way around, and since the window was very small, it looked ridiculous.  When I complained (again), they argued (again) and said they couldn't do any more work until that situation was resolved. Then they packed up and went home. This was at 8 a.m., so we lost a day.
6) They came back the next day and replaced the trim, and while it looks better, it is still not what we had originally ordered. And before replacing it, they told me three different sizes of trim that they absolutely must use, for various air-tight reasons. None of these reasons was true, since in the end they went with something else.
7) There were other problems along those lines---detail work that was not done right, or not done according to what we had agreed upon. I *hated* having to complain, and I hated even more that when I did complain,  they argued with me.
Was there a project manager? Did someone come out and inspect the work?  If so, he approved substandard work--the rotten old siding, the giant nailheads, the dented trim.
I wrote a letter and put my complaints in writing, and I also spoke to someone at length over the phone who promised to talk to a manager and relay my concerns.
In return, five days later I got a letter acknowledging my payment and including one half-sentence regretting the problems. That was it.
So--bottom line: they do a fine job on roofs and probably do a fine job on vinyl, which I believe they are very experienced in. But the Hardie Plank? I would not recommend them. I would not recommend their attention to detail. I would not recommend their customer service. And I would definitely not recommend their project manager, who either didn't inspect our job, or signed off on a substandard (but very expensive) job."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Fiber cement siding is the best siding to install over stucco because it offers many of the same benefits for homes where stucco is common, including fire resistance, insect resistance, and good insulation. Fiber cement siding is also rigid, so it won’t warp over time like vinyl siding might if installed over furring strips.

Regularly clean with mild detergent, inspect for cracks, and replace damaged sections as needed.

You can calculate the required square footage of siding you need by measuring the height and width of your home’s rectangular exterior walls. For the triangular-shaped gable walls, measure the height from the ground to the tallest gable point to make sure you have enough for good coverage. Once you have combined the totals for each wall, add another 10% to account for wasted materials. It’s also good to have extra siding on hand to tackle wood siding repair down the road.

The average cost to install stucco siding on a home is around $5,700, with most homeowners paying between $2,200 and $9,100. However, the total cost can range from $750 to as high as $22,750 depending on several factors. On average, you can expect to pay between $7 and $9 per square foot. Key cost factors include the size and complexity of your home, the desired color and texture, labor and material costs in your area, and whether you have a multi-story home. Specific applications have different costs, such as adding stucco over brick ($7 per square foot) or over wood siding ($8.50 per square foot). To save money, you can consider removing the old siding yourself or scheduling the installation during the off-season.

The best type of paint for vinyl siding is a high-quality acrylic latex paint, often labeled as '100% acrylic.' This type of paint is lightweight and adheres well to the vinyl surface, which reduces the likelihood of it peeling or flaking. For best results, apply two coats and avoid using thick paint. The color choice is also important; select a light color to prevent the paint from absorbing excess heat, which helps extend the durability of your paint job.
