I can not say enough good about the work Josh and his crew did. They were very professional and worked with my insurance company to get roof repair covered due to wind damage. I had faulty shingles put on 12 years ago and insurance company was trying to say this was all due to the poor shingles, Josh worked with adjustor and showed her the wind damage aside from the faulty shingles. Also had sliding window installed in attic later and that turned out very well.

Very happy with their work and everything done in a timely manner. Clean up was great.

"James was amazing! He was in contact with us in scheduling a time to look at our project, we received an estimate by email the next day and let us know a time frame on when he could get the patio poured. He was extremely professional and the sub-contractor he hired to do our job was on-time and worked till late evening just to clean up the job site. I would definitely hire Driftless Craft for our next project!!!"

"I called Jeff to get his thoughts on some asbestos duct insulation in the basement of a house we were making an offer on. He was out with an appointment, but called back ASAP and asked for all the details, then walked me through what he would do in my situation. Incredibly, even though his livelihood is asbestos mitigation, he recommended I leave it alone (he said since there was so little asbestos, and the insulation tape was in good enough shape, it'd actually be worse to try and remove it). He was extremely courteous and knowledgeable, and even though his advice meant that I wouldn't be hiring him, he has my recommendation for anyone who actually DOES have an asbestos problem.

"Once I sent her all the measurements, it took her a little while to get the options back to me.  Overall, they're good designs.  However, they're very simplistic and give general ideas for space planning.  I was hoping to have a better idea for sizes of furniture for the space and some variations on staging.
Jill was very responsive when I did have a question.  I'm not sure how helpful it is to have a virtual design done.  If we lived in similar cities, I'd probably use her again for help with additional designs.

"Bumps always occur on any kind of project - the difference between an outstanding experience and a difficult experience is the honesty, professionalism, responsiveness, and expertise the contractor brings to the job. Right Choice has it all! I wouldn’t hire anyone else to do work on my home!"

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.

Traditionally, bungalows are single-story homes, although having a half or partial story on top of the first floor is common. While adding a second story to a bungalow is certainly possible, the home would no longer be considered a bungalow by the strictest definition.

Installing an ornamental or decorative porch column takes around three to five hours. Structural columns take longer because your pro has to install a jack to hold up the roof while switching the column out. If there's any structural damage, it can add several days to the timeline to repair the damage.

A few signs that you need a new door frame include:

  • The door no longer fits properly in its frame and sticks or scrapes.

  • You notice cracks, holes, or rotting.

  • You feel a draft coming from around the door when it’s closed.

  • You find yourself frequently needing to make repairs.

You should avoid drilling or cutting into load-bearing beams because removing material will weaken it and increase the risk of structural damage or even collapse. If you do need to drill into a load-bearing beam, speak with a structural engineer first to discuss where it’s safest to drill and the width and depth of the bit that’s safe to use.
