"Chris was professional, friendly and easy to deal with. Even though he hadn't installed any permeable driveways, he had installed permeable patios and didn't see any problems with doing something similar with my small driveway. He even suggested some options for reusing the water. I would have accepted Chris' proposal but I found someone who installed permeable driveways using recycled material which is what I initially wanted and was having a hard time finding.

"Paul and crew were great to work with. After the original job was set, I added a request to square off the oddly pointed corner of yard along the driveway side. Paul was able to accommodate this, and cemented the new area of driveway that had been covered with yard. The corner of the yard had been at an angle and came to a point that was impossible to mow and made no sense. It now makes much more sense.
The lawn was badly sloping to the retaining wall, and Paul and crew built the new wall up a bit higher, and filled in with dirt to make the lawn more level to the wall. Aside from looking much better, it will be much easier to mow. They also put down a lot of gravel behind the wall to increase drainage.
I was very impressed with their hard work and how fast the job went. They did an amazing job with cleanup. At the end of the first day, all the materials that had been in the street while they were worked were cleaned up and moved, even though they were coming back the next day to finish. The neighbors were impressed, and appreciated the clean up. They even swept the street where the materials had been.
After the job was finished, I had several neighbors stop by and comment on how good the wall looked and how quickly the job was finished. They were amazed that it was all done in 1 1/2 days.
Thanks to Paul and crew.

"Clark Companies of MN did an AMAZING job installing our gravel driveway. They took their time and made sure it was exactly how we wanted it. The guys asked us along the way how we liked it, of course we said we loved it! Weâ ve been living in our new build for about 8 months with use of only half our driveway, Clark Companies of MN came in quickly, reasonably priced and now we can finally use our whole driveway!!"

"Great. Both John and Jerry (separately) came to our home to look over our driveway and provide options on what we could do to repair the surface. They recomended and priced three options which included making spot repairs, spot repairs and overlay of the whole driveway and lastly a complete replacement. We chose the combination of repair and overlay of the total surface. They targeted a date to do the work and kept in touch with us to schedule a final date. Their crew of workmen and equipment arrived as promised and the work was done in one afternoon. I am really pleased with the price and quality of the work . It exceeded my expectations."

"Dale and his crew did an exceptional job. They replaced my asphalt driveway with concrete and it looks awesome. This classes up the outward appearance of my home and also adds to the value of my home.I would highly recommend DK concrete as they are very reasonable and honest."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

The choice between asphalt and concrete depends on your priorities, budget, and climate.

Concrete is generally more durable, lasting up to 50 years with minimal upkeep, and offers more customization options like staining and stamping, which can add more to a home's value. However, it is more expensive upfront and can be prone to cracking in cold climates where water can freeze and expand.

Asphalt is typically cheaper and quicker to install and is easier to repair. It performs better in colder climates. However, it requires more maintenance, including regular resealing, has a shorter lifespan, and can get hot and sticky in intense sunlight.

Ultimately, if durability and long-term value are key, concrete is often the better choice. If upfront cost and performance in cold weather are more important, asphalt may be preferable.

Chip seal layers gravel and a liquid bitumen one at a time on-site, while asphalt directly pours a pre-combined mixture. Asphalt must be sealed, but it will last up to four times as long as chip seal driveways. Aesthetically, chip seal has a natural, rustic look compared to the traditional asphalt slab.

Whether it's worth it to install a heated driveway depends on how often you'll use it, your lifestyle, and your budget. If you live in a mild climate with little snowfall, then installing a built-in heated driveway system may not be worth it. If you live in a region that experiences mild snowfall, then a portable mat could work better. However, if you live in a region with heavy snowfall, it makes sense to invest in a built-in heated driveway.

When comparing installation costs, asphalt is often less expensive upfront than concrete. Asphalt prices typically range from $7 to $15 per square foot, while concrete can range from $3 to $18 per square foot. However, long-term costs should also be considered. Concrete driveways generally last longer (up to twice as long) and require less maintenance, which can make them more affordable over their lifespan. While asphalt has a lower installation cost and is easier to repair, it requires more frequent maintenance, such as sealing, which can add up over time. Therefore, while concrete is more expensive initially, its durability may offset the cost in the long run.

You should not attempt to install your own driveway. Whether working with asphalt or pavement, this is a complicated project that requires special equipment. Talk to some nearby asphalt or paving professionals and discuss your particular needs—it’s a good idea to get a few quotes and look at the company’s past work.
