"I bought an Angie's List deal from All Day Haul Away for $99 (prepaid); they said by phone that my oversized piece would probably require an extra charge. Four months later when I called for a pickup, it was made by a business called Junk Genius (a subcontractor of All Day Haul Away?). Junk Genius's standard charge is $95, slightly less than the cost of the Angie's List deal I had already paid. Junk Genius said nothing about the load being oversized. Next time, I would try calling Junk Genius first."

"The movers arrived on time and quickly got things ready and moved out.  They were very professional and efficient.  The unpacking at the new house went just as well.  We were hesitant to use movers after our last experience when they rolled our round table out the door and down our concrete driveway with no packing material around it and found several items damaged afterward.  Above The Crowd movers lived up to their stellar reviews on Angie's List.

"I had 4 tree services come by for estimates. All Seasons was the most reasonable plus they were recommended by a friend.  They were very quick to respond and were able to do the job just a few days after the estimate. Everything looked great and they didn't leave a mess.

"Miller and his colleagues were able to do a lot of things quickly. Along with everything else, they also grabbed some old furniture that I needed help moving to the curb. They took several cares to make sure nothing was damaged during the move, including wrapping the furniture, turning off all the lights, and packaging the picture frames."

"I absolutely love this company! This is the second time I have used them. I love that they cover all sorts of services (moving, hauling, disposing, cleaning). Prices are reasonable, they give you cost estimates over the phone so you know exactly how much you are paying and for what. They set up specific times for when they will be there (instead of the 4 hour window you get from some places) - and they show up on time. I will definitely be using them again."

Hauling questions, answered by experts

Demolition is a project that involves heavy machinery, skilled labor, and hazardous waste removal. It can also take multiple weeks to complete. Plus, it’s a dangerous job. The machinery itself costs a lot of money, as does the time of the people who are operating that machinery (and the training they receive to do so safely). Certain hazardous materials, like asbestos, can cost up to $25 per foot for removal.

Simple hand clearing is possible on a small scale, but substantial work requires professionals to properly use heavy machinery and execute it precisely.

Depending on where you live and how much furniture you’re disposing of, you could schedule a large item collection with your municipal trash pick-up services, hire a junk removal company, or rent a dumpster.

Only throw soil in a dumpster rental if you have permission in your contract to do so. Organic materials such as soil often make the list of items that shouldn't go in a dumpster, but this depends on the agreement. Some dumpster companies will accept non-contaminated soil as well as rocks, yard debris, and compost.

Policies vary on what you can throw in a dumpster rental. Some companies will accept large appliances, although you may need to take steps to prepare the washer and dryer for disposal. Some companies don’t allow large appliances in their dumpsters at all, so it’s best to ask the rental company beforehand to find out what its policy is.
