1-800-GOT-JUNK? is a full-service junk removal company. We haul everything away from wherever the items are located and finish by sweeping up. Plus, we recycle and donate your junk whenever possible.

"They had a bit of trouble with the extra large 28 year old sofa out of the narrow doors of my house, but they were able to demolish it and remove it. I don't remembered how we managed to get the sofa in the house in the first place - we might have brought it in through a window. They also took my 10 year old bike off my hands for a donation. The price is based on the amount of space your stuck takes up in the truck."

Garbage Collection questions, answered by experts

Garbage disposals fit the drains of nearly every sink out there due to universal drain hole sizes of 3 1/2 to 4 inches, but the same isn’t true for the housing underneath the sink. You need plenty of room to fit a garbage disposal under there, so measure the space ahead of time and use those dimensions when shopping for a new model. If you’re replacing an existing model, get one in that size.

Soil is just one of the items you shouldn't put down a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are only meant for soft, non-fibrous foods. Large amounts of topsoil, dirt, or rocks will damage the blades of your garbage disposal or clog the pipes. If a small amount of dirt goes down the drain as you repot a plant, you shouldn't have to worry, but never dump a whole pot of soil in the sink for fast disposal.

It’s one thing that helps, alongside vinegar and baking soda. Ice acts as an exfoliant, helping to lift off any bits of food stuck on the disposal blades.

Garbage disposals last an average of seven years but can function well past 10 years. However, as time goes on and more food is ground, the grinding plates will slowly lose their edge and need replacing. A motor likely won’t last 10 or more years, but you should be able to get a minimum of five years at least, even under heavy usage.

As with many appliances, proper maintenance is key to maximizing your garbage disposal’s life span. If everyone in your household is on board with proper care and maintenance, like running water while operating the disposal, you should get plenty of years out of your unit. Avoid putting the wrong food items down the disposal, including pasta, rice, bread, and more.
