"Keegan does great work! Let’s just start with that. From helping me pick out the best flooring for my home to showing up exactly when he said he was going to be there and having an open line of communication. I’ve dealt with multiple contractors in the past and all of them gave the same experience, most of the time they wouldn’t get back to me for multiple days or they would just show up out of the blue no phone call or text and start working. If you appreciate someone that will communicate well with you and also has great knowledge of products than Keegan is your guy I will definitely be using lakes area remodels for all my future contracting needs!!"

"We replaced the windows in our 1933 home through the services of MadCity Windows. From the initial contact with their sales representative to final installation, the company provided top notch professional work. With the draft from the old windows and the cold of the glass, we are already saving on our energy bills. Our house had old, large windows, so they had to be custom made. As an industrial designer and interior designer, we find our windows to be of excellent quality."

I started my interior design career after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.S in Interior Design. I initially went into commercial design, which developed and honed my project management and business skills. However, I was missing the client interaction and the type of creativity specific to residential design, so I switched gears! For the last 18 years I've been designing residential interiors...and it has been amazing! I love the process of building a design and bringing it all together. I know I've succeeded when my client not only has a beautifully designed space but also fully enjoyed the process along the way. \n\nI would love to help you with your next design project...contact me today and we'll talk about it!\n\nKirsten Seidl, NCIDQ Certified

Remodel Design questions, answered by experts

It is technically possible to draw your own blueprints, but the process is extremely involved and really demands help from an expert. A professional architect has an understanding of design elements, interior design, the functionality of different rooms in a home, and how everything from furniture, outlets, and light switches should be laid out to serve you and your family best. Hiring an architect for blueprints can get expensive, but it’s the most responsible way to begin a new construction project. If you’re keen on DIYing, you could consider starting the process and then having a professional take over.

Professionals such as architects, general contractors, electricians, HVAC specialists, and interior designers are crucial to effectively planning and executing significant renovations.

If your project is complex, it may make sense to hire an architect to draw plans. An architect might also be a good person to hire if you want to ensure your plans adhere to building codes and regulations.

You can draw your own house plans using three-dimensional modeling software, but in most cases, you’ll need an architect to draw up the final plans. Architects understand local building regulations and requirements, so their plans will be necessary for getting permits approved, and they’ll also ensure your home is structurally sound. DIY house plans can be a good place to start to help visualize your project, but you should always defer to a professional before trying to proceed with the project.

British architect John Nash is credited with creating the Italianate style of architecture. The style was further popularized in the U.S. by landscape architect Andrew Jackson Downing and architect Calvert Vaux. The style spread across the U.S. due to Downing’s popular book on the style and the availability of plans and materials due to the mass production of the Industrial Revolution.
