"Bathworks did an amazing job installing a new walk in shower in our primary bathroom and replacement shower in our guest bathroom. The installers were very professional, fast and took care to keep our home clean! Bathworks representatives were in communication with us throughout the process."

"Jonathan did me real solids today. Despite the fact that they were here to clean up bascially messes left by the installers on my HVAC on both AC and furnace, he AGAN went ABOVE and BEYOND when he noticed I was doing my own plumbing project. We had hot water seeping out with our water main shut off on a fixture exchange, and he pointed out we can drain the hot water heater partially to stop this. The last plumber didn't eve care to share this, or even do it. I will not go ANY OTHER PLACE than Service Professor for my plumbing, HVAC and electrical needs. PERIOD. No one else compares!"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Start your plumbing upgrades by inspecting pipe insulation in unheated spaces to protect against freezing Whitehall winters. Next, verify your sump pump functions correctly to handle high water tables. For older homes, check for corroded galvanized steel pipes and outdated water heaters. If your property relies on a private well, test the water quality immediately to ensure a safe drinking supply.

Helpful?

The lake-effect winters in MI dictate year-round freeze protection for plumbing systems. Seasonal cottages require strict winterization and spring de-winterization to prevent burst pipes. Additionally, the high water table and spring snowmelt put immense pressure on basement drains and sump pumps, creating sewer backup risks. High summer humidity also causes condensation, which accelerates pipe corrosion in unventilated crawl spaces.

Helpful?

Look for brown water or reduced water pressure, which indicate failing galvanized steel pipes common in older Whitehall homes. Slow drains, sewage odors, or wet yard spots point to improper septic or sewer connections. Mismatched pipe materials from informal freeze repairs also signal failing plumbing. Finally, unpermitted modifications violate current building codes and require immediate professional correction.

Helpful?

Install anti-scald valves on showers and tubs to protect children from burns, a strict requirement under MI building codes. Secure open sump pits with sealed covers to prevent drowning hazards. Prioritize well water testing due to historical industrial activity in Whitehall. Finally, secure crawl space access points to keep pets away from standing water, mold, and exposed plumbing components.

Helpful?

In Whitehall, you must decide whether to pull building permits yourself or hire a licensed contractor for plumbing work. You also need to confirm if your property uses the municipal water system or a private well, and whether it connects to city sewer or a septic system. Finally, choose your water heater fuel type, as both natural gas and propane are common in MI.
