"They are professional and thorough, but there is really no wiggle room if you would like something differently done. Choices in booklet are pretty basic, not a lot of options (for flooring types, door style, trim) This company is like the Anderson Windows of basements. (No doubt they spend a lot on advertising; There is a reason they are the top result when searching!) Expect to pay quite a bit more than you planned, but I knew if I chose them it would be done and warrantied for everything. Sometimes you just want to sign and not worry, and I would definitely pick Finished basements plus if you are in that situation and have the budget."

"My basement is dry and within the 4 -6 weeks after the job the humidity levels where at desired levels and stayed that way. The crew was great and the after care and follow up was above expectations."

"The assigned crew; Bobby (Management), Josh C., Vernon, and Jaren (working crew) were organized, personable, polite, knowledgeable in all aspects, and hard working. Everyone started on time, and finished on schedule (a major accomplishment considering the magnitude of the project). I enjoyed having the crew around; they cleaned up as they worked as well as when they were done. Although there were minor things missed at the end of the project, management was quick to respond and correct any mishaps the next business day. I would highly recommend HomeSpec business to anyone seeking basement waterproofing projects in the future."

"Steve and his crew, Rick and Joey were so efficient and did a great mold remediation and blown insulation. Rick and Joey cleaned up the mess of removing old insulation and making sure the attic was good and clean to put down new insulation and blow insulation into the attic. They also found that my crawl space had no barrier between the dirt floor and the house, so I hired them to take care of that. Steve and his crew made us feel like we were very important customers. Jessie, Director of Client Services, is so great with scheduling the crew in a timely manner. She will also remind you when to expect the crew and who the crew is by sending you their picture and name. I highly recommend Your Home Solution Experts."

"AL POISSON AND HIS CREW ARE GREAT TO WORK WITH! My basement foundation needed to be repaired and Al was the only representative of the 3 companies I contacted that described the repair AS IT SHOULD BE DONE. The others were more interested in selling their "system". The Omega crew treated my home as if it was theirs, were all courteous and most pleasant and happy. They were efficient and helpful, even carrying in my groceries from across the street when they noticed what I was doing. They paid attention, not only to me but to their work and take pride in it. They were particular about leaving the site clean and in excellent repair. Even the adjacent neighbor said they were "great" and thanked me for choosing this company. They will be the first company I research should I need other services they provide."

"The man that came to our house was very nice and we felt as though he was not trying to sell us a basement system, but more-so a piece of mind. Also, he explained exactly where everything would be and how it would all work. Thanks, Roger!"

"They installed a heavy duty sump with battery back-up, drainage around perimeter and center of basement and a dry well in back yard. They also patched cracks in floor. When they were done, they cleaned up everything, and the place was immaculate. I thoroughly recommend them!"

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

Encapsulation can take the place of crawl space vents since it protects the area from moisture and air all year round. Determining whether you should open or close crawl space vents can be complicated since it often depends on the weather and humidity. Skip this step by investing in crawl space encapsulation whenever possible.

The least expensive basement waterproofing methods include grading soil away from your home, installing downspout extenders on your gutter system, and applying a waterproof paint on the interior of the foundation walls. Installing a French drain is a relatively inexpensive method if you do the work yourself, although it’s labor-intensive and can be challenging to install properly.

The primary reason homes have crawl spaces is so the foundation can reach down below the frost line to avoid dangerous soil movement and structural damage when the ground freezes. They’re more popular in colder climates where the ground freezes down to a few feet, and slabs are most popular in warmer areas where there is no frost line. Crawl spaces also provide a space for utility lines to run where they’re at less of a risk of freezing.

The best way to ensure the ground next to your home’s foundation drains properly is to divert water away from it as much as possible. While a flood wall can stop water from entering the house, gutters and spouts can help direct rainwater and melting snow away from the foundation. Keep your gutters as clear as possible from dead leaves and other yard debris so they can effectively divert water from your house. Add extenders to the spouts so the water runs out and away from your home, not into the surrounding soil.

It’s not the number of weep holes that should be of concern to builders but rather their spacing. Weep holes are usually spaced anywhere between 16 inches on center when using round tubes or wicking materials and 24 inches on center when using open-head joints. This is a more conservative spacing than the 33-inch maximum spacing on center that’s mentioned in the International Residential Code. All in all, the total number of weep holes a brick exterior should have will depend on the size of the structure.
