"All I needed was half my basement repaired from water damage due to a broken pipe. They would not come out to even quote the job unless they were going to rebuild the entire basement. At least they didn't waste my time."

"Dillon Contracting was a Great Experience. Tom Dillon and I put a plan together to finish my basement.I was nervous seeing that I never invested this kind of funds towards an home improvement project. I had heard all the horror story about contractors leaving customers high and dry. I had a couple other quotes from contractors competing for the job. Dillions was not the least expensive but Tom Dillion came over to me to be honest. Tom steered me but valued my opinion. My job probably wasn't the biggest job that Dillon Contracting has constructed but I was impressed with the attention to detail in which Dillon Contracting team gave my project. The team that Dillon Contracting assigned to our project were the best that I have ever witness. When our guest come to visit. All we hear from them is. Who finish your basement follow by them saying. If my basement was like this. I would never leave home. By the way if you decide to go with Dillon Contracting tell Greg and the Crew Hello for me."

"Craig and his crew are awesome, I’m So glad I picked Artistic Construction and Design !!! I got 3 bids for my basement project, all highly rated on “Angie” and Craig was the lowest ……by over $20,000 !!! The best part is that Craig designed everything and gave us a blueprint. His finish crew (Chris and Kenny’s ) work was excellent and there crew shows up every day at 7am till finished ……literally found a diamond in the ruff !"

"Best decision I have EVER made hands down was choosing SHB. I called multiple companies prior and never felt confident in going through with my remodel until I met Jerrod. He was honest, professional, friendly and consistent, along with his whole team. I know if I need anything done in the future I will call him first without hesitation."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Framing a basement takes three to five days, on average, when completed by a professional, though it may take longer for a larger space. Keep in mind this doesn’t include the time to complete the design, obtain permits, and install the drywall on the framing. On average, fully finishing a basement takes an average of 45 days.

If you’re not sure which method of raising the ceiling is best for you, here are a couple of considerations to help you make that decision. A professional ceiling company will be able to help you determine the best option for your home.

  • How long you are planning to live there: although raising the basement ceiling will increase the value of your home, if you’re planning to sell the house, then go for raising the house.

  • The condition of the foundation: to lower the floors, your foundation has to be intact whereas raising the house will allow you to restore the damaged foundation.

The cost of finishing a basement is about $18,400 on average. As you can see, the framing portion of this project costs less, because you’re essentially just dealing with laying the foundation for a finished basement. The finishing portion of the project involves a lot more intricate work and design, as well as high-end materials.

Basements with persistent moisture problems or flooding shouldn’t be finished until the moisture issues have been fixed. In addition, if your foundation is cracked, you have unmitigated radon levels, or you have asbestos or lead pipes, remediate the underlying problem before finishing your basement. Turning a basement into living space before fixing these issues can lead to serious health risks or structural damage.

You technically can paint wires in a basement ceiling, but there are several important safety and code considerations. It's safe to paint non-metallic sheathed cable as long as the labeling remains visible. You can also paint low-voltage wires and conduit and junction boxes to help them blend into your basement.

However, you should not paint damaged or deteriorated wiring is a fire hazard because it poses a fire hazard. The same goes for painting over high-heat wires that connect to heat-generating appliances or systems. Be sure to avoid painting multiple coats onto any wires, as that traps heat and poses fire risks.
