"I would like to thank Community construction for the work they did with the remodel / rework job they did on my manufactured home in the Yankee Springs / Middleville Michigan area. I recently have expanded my family and need to convert an extra living room space into a bedroom and a smaller sitting / tv room. The Gentleman "Nate" who worked on my home did a great job. Nate communicated with me every step of the way to make sure I was always informed of what was going on. thanks again."

"Matrix did an excellent job installing a bathroom in my basement. Steve was incredible in coordinating the different work that needed to be completed and there were many variables for him to juggle. My bathroom shower is probably the nicest in Southeastern Michigan (not bragging - I'd post pictures if I could). Steve's teams did an excellent job getting everything done and making it look as luxurious as possible. The only constructive feedback I have for the company is that the pricing was very steep considering that I believe many steps in the process may have been eliminated; the sales rep was not familiar with every scope of work necessary which made things confusing for Steve (the Project Foreman), and there was an additional individual whom I never corresponded with which made me wonder if there are too many folks involved to keep the pricing affordable. I paid to install the bathroom what I wanted to pay to complete the entire basement and I had to complete some of the work myself to include painting and flooring installation. Overall the quality of the work is tremendous, however, I still think there's opportunity to restructure the approach to completing projects that could drop the pricing down for the consumer. I would definitely hire the company again as they do incredible work and I couldn't be happier with my completed bathroom."

"I gave Andrew some blueprints for a mud kitchen I had found on Etsy and he put it together and stained it within a day! It was the perfect birthday present for my daughter. Would hire again!"

"Rob and his brother did a fantastic job on our basement. They were prompt and professional. They also made a point of cleaning up at the end of every day they worked so I didn't have drywall dust tracked through the rest of the house. Rob did a fantastic job finishing the drywall and making it ready to prime and paint. The price quoted was very reasonable. I would use them again if I needed any construction.

"They were on time and finished the job when he said they would - 3 days of hard work later.  Matched and repaired the roof so it all blends in.  On the inside, he did an excellent job repairing/replacing the drywall, including insulation.  The paint was a light lavender in color and he matched it perfectly.  Looks great.

"The replacement of the junction box went just fine - just with some plaster cracking around the box, but that is to be expected in our 100+year old home.  It was nothing the painters we hired couldn't fix when they came through later to paint.  However, the job on the chandelier didn't go exactly as they had planned.  While they were able to secure it properly back to the existing junction box, one of the 12 ornamental glass shades fell to its demise on to the tiled floor.  This was a problem.
I called the manager at Vander Hyde to inquire as to how they deal with cases where the electricians damage the chandeliers they are supposed to be fixing.  I was told that they don't normally damage chandeliers and I would have to wait until he had been able to discuss the situation with the electricians.  And that was my last contact with the manager.  As for the electricians, they told me that it fell after they had stepped outside to get something from their vehicle and therefore they couldn't be blamed for damaging the chandelier.  They then went on to assure me that they could get a replacement shade so not to worry and asked how many I wanted.  I was so happy that we wouldn't have to replace the entire chandelier I told them not to worry about the price of the replacement parts - as long as they got me the parts, all would be well, I would pay for them.
They told me to give them a couple days to get a hold of the replacement parts. ... Well, that has been several months ago.  And still no word from them.  I called several times to Vander Hyde but had no luck.
Hopefully, if they work around expensive chandeliers in your own home - nothing will be accidentally knocked to the floor, because if it does you might end up having to replace the whole thing at your own expense.
This is a pitty.  Because the rest of the work they did was top notch - well, except for the electrical junction box installation which they did a fine job installing.  But, in the process they turned off a water valve within the hidden ceiling in the basement and forgot to turn it back on.  So a day later, I found that our dishes in the dishwasher had food baked on to them because there was no water to clean them.  To fix this they had me pull a bunch of ceiling panels in the basement until I found the valve they had left turned off.  Luckily, nothing was broking in the process - unlike the chandelier.
With all this said - I still really liked the senior electrician who came out.  If it weren't for the lack of follow up on his part and on the manager's regarding the broken chandelier I would use their service again.

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Permits may be required for major repairs, structural work, or electrical and plumbing restoration after a flood. Check with your local building department to determine permit requirements and associated fees for your flooded basement cleanup project. Obtaining the correct permits helps ensure work is done safely and up to code.

Rebar is an essential part of reinforcing a basement floor, as not having it can impact its structural integrity. It helps absorb the tension factors that contribute to cracks in your floor and strengthens its load-bearing capabilities by evenly distributing the weight. Not including rebar could lead to an unstable floor, so don’t skip it!

Any bowing in a basement wall indicates a problem that needs to be addressed by a professional. If your basement wall bows more than 1 inch, it's time for an inspection. Generally, a wall can bow up to 30% of its thickness (around 2.5 inches for an 8-inch-thick wall) before it becomes an urgent situation. Bowing of 2 to 4 inches is more straightforward to fix than bowing of more than 4 inches, which will require significant repairs. If the bowing is more than 6 inches, the wall will likely need to be replaced. The sooner you address the problem, the easier and less expensive the repair will be.

Some older homes have toilets in the basement to combat sewage backups. This type of toilet, also known as a Pittsburgh potty, acted as a safety valve over the incoming sewer line. If a line backed up, it would back up into the toilet because it was the lowest fixture in the home, keeping it out of sight and away from the finished areas of the house.

Basement toilets were also used by workers with messy jobs, like those who worked in coal mines or steel mills. This way, they could clean up and avoid tracking dirt through their home.

Making a window in a basement larger costs an average of $4,200. You’ll need to pay an average of $550 to have a structural engineer plan the project, $500 to $1,500 for the installation labor, and an average of $2,200 for the excavation and window well installation. The remainder will go toward pulling permits, installing trim, and repairing drywall on the interior.
