Plumbing Works LLC is fully licensed and insured.

"This is a follow up to my recent previous post. I should have included it was a Power Vent natural gas water replacement to explain the higher cost for the unit installation. The same make and comparable size model water heater at Lowes was priced over $1000. I had 3 plumbing companies quote on the work, which was done at no cost. Plumbing Works - Rocky was the lowest bidder. One local (to me) company quoted $2900. Another larger firm from Lansing quoted about $250 more than Rocky. Both of those companies were going to put in the make and model they represented versus the current one. One company, Meridian stated they would give me a quote but it would cost $$$ for just doing it, I declined to do that"

"This year I get a bill for well over $600 for the Spring re-installation. No one called me to explain why the charge was going to be around three times the usual charge. I called them and was given no explanation other than they decided everything was to be replaced with new items. I use my lakehouse about three to four weeks in the entire year! I was told I would be called with an explanation. No one has called. I think this group assumes they have a relative monopoly and can ignore customer service. I will no longer use them and I have heard similar complaints from my neighbors."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can have both a water softener and a water filter. In fact, some manufacturers sell dual water softening and filtration systems that treat hard water and provide clean drinking water. If you’re unsure about what you need or want to discuss your options, reach out to a local water softener installation company.

A good hardness level for drinking water can vary based on personal preferences, but an ideal level is 3.5 to 7 GPG. This means your water isn’t soft or hard. However, some people prefer the “fresh” taste from the minerals in hard water, while others like the smoother, “slippery” texture of soft water.

A lower-end water softener would cost around $900, not including installation. Each home has different requirements, water hardness, and number of inhabitants, so there’s a huge range in pricing—$600 to over $6,000. The average water softener repair bill is around $500, meaning it’s a much better option to repair any issues and only replace your softener if absolutely necessary.

You can install a water softener system by turning off the water supply, draining the water, and then connecting your device to the waterline. Next, you’ll fill your tank with the recommended amount of salt or brine (whichever your unit calls for; be sure to read the instructions). Turn the water supply on and check for leaks. You can opt to let your water run for a few minutes, then test it using strips.

The process of inspecting your water softener system is similar.

Drinking hard water is not known to have any negative health impacts. Using hard water can lead to dry skin and hair, and the minerals in hard water can build up in pipes, faucets, and appliances. Hard water is more of a threat to your plumbing than it is to your health.
