"Nick at Hometime Construction promptly came out to assess our gutter project and then gave us a fair estimate. He was kind, knowledgeable and knew exactly what to do and how to do it. Within an acceptable amount of time Nick and Jeremiah came out and replaced a large section of damaged gutter and beautifully cleaned and “straightened up”gutter that was disheveled and debris filled and then also dug 2 trenches with pop ups for drainage. They did a complete job; paying attention to detail and then also cleaning up with disposal of debris. We couldn’t be more pleased with the results we got using Hometime Construction. Garage door sensors work by using infrared beams to detect objects in the door’s path. One sensor sends a beam while the other receives it. When the beam is broken—say, by your car or anything else—the sensors signal the door to stop or reverse. It’s all about safety and making sure nothing gets trapped under the door. If they’re misaligned, the beam doesn’t connect, and the garage door might stay open or close regardless of obstructions.

Your epoxy garage floors will last two to 10 years, depending on foot traffic and maintenance. Clean your floor regularly with a mop or a power washer using a diluted ammonia or degreaser solution. Use five ounces of ammonia per gallon of water or a half-cup of degreaser per gallon of water.

Also, sweep regularly, clean up any spills right away, and install mats in places where you expect the most foot traffic.

Wood, steel, fiberglass, and aluminum are among the top building materials for a garage. Wood is highly customizable, naturally insulative, and durable in mild climates but can be expensive. Steel is lightweight, low-maintenance, and cost-effective, but it’s susceptible to rust. Fiberglass is low-maintenance and doesn’t shrink or expand in changing temperatures, but it can become brittle and crack from prolonged high winds and sun exposure.

Unlike steel, aluminum isn’t susceptible to rust and is low-maintenance, but its ultra-light weight makes it less durable than some materials, and it’s susceptible to saltwater damage, making it a poor choice for coastal homes.

With good maintenance, garage doors can last for 15 to 30 years. You might consider a replacement if yours is approaching that age and struggling to work properly. For instance, if your garage door is slow to open or close (or doesn’t open or close at all) or is loud even after lubricating the parts, you might need a new one. Similarly, if it’s sagging, uneven, or has other visual signs of wear and tear, it may be time for an upgrade.
