Very negative experience - we contracted to replace a commercial operator which failed in less than 30 days. The repairman told me there was a defective part and there was no warranty. They billed me another $500. and continued to harass me until I paid.

they initially they were very responsive w a estimate in early december
had to call to get formal written estimate.
did not require deposit
took awhile for and quot;partand quot; to arrive as wanted a battery backup system.
further delays w weather
only asked that in be done by end of january
called me mid january and said and quot;springsand quot; broke while repair occurring. no details as to why or how. couldn't even tell me which side it
when i asked about wasn't the price for a entire new system, they said no only and quot;opener and railand quot;
additional cost was $280
agreed to additional work
no contact for ~10-14 days.
called and asked if work done and what about bill as my wife was planning to being going to cottage and wanted to be sure the doors would open
specifically told and quot;all doneand quot; and bill sent.
friends of mine went to cottage instead of wife due to illness
they called and informed me that the garage door opener weren't installed. i was incredulous. i couldn't believe what he was telling me: they were still on floor. sent pics over phone.bill was in mailbox for work and quot;doneand quot;
called them back to discuss the incomplete job. he doubted my report and i had to send him pictures of the openers unattached and lying on garage floor.
took 24-48 hours to get a person out to complete job. work was finally completed.
my friend had to sweep up debris after the worker left: some sharp staples and other materials
i realize good workers are hard to come by,
my real issue is the lack of professional behaviors:sending bills out for work not completed and then having to perform additional work for 'broken spring' with poor explanations and workers to leave sharp materials on a garage floor
overall i do not know the final quality of the work as i have not personally seen it or assessed it. so a final judgement is pending. i am hoping the replacement opener works long and well and will not need to call for repairs in the future
Response from OVERHEAD DOOR CO OF GRAND TRAVERSE
"We are terribly sorry for the poor performance on this project. The information being translated from the field to the office was unknowingly incorrect. The performance in the field was certainly below our expectations and past history and the person responsible is no longer with the firm. We are particularly sensitive to our second home owner clients and have instituted changes to prevent this type of issue in the future."

The Company answered my call promptly and we set up an appointment. They came on the scheduled appointment date.
They hung the door and replaced some white vinyl trim that had been damaged. I had used this company when living in another state and liked their work. Very professional people and do great work.

After I drove through one of my garage doors, I needed to replace it, along with the second one to have a matching pair for looks. Overhead Door came to the house to measure and provide an estimate, which I received quickly. I paid half the amount to order the doors, and the balance after installation was complete. The only glitch was that I wasn't given a date for the work to be done. When I called, I was told the doors would be on the truck on the 17th, so I assumed that I'd get a call to arrange things after that. Instead, I got a call the morning of the 17th (while I was at work) saying that they were at my house and needed a car moved. Communication could have been better. Otherwise, I'm pleased with the look and operation of my new doors.

Overhead Door Company of Grand Traverse was very responsive to our emergency needs. Although our problem happened mid-afternoon on the Friday prior to a Federal Holiday, they were able to respond in the early evening of the same day. The responding technician was very competent and quickly solved our immediate problem with a temporary fix. He also correctly ordered the necessary replacement part which was installed as soon as it was received, 4 calendar days later. On the same visit, per our request, the technician installing the new spring also installed a keyless entry pad. We were very pleased with the quality of the work and the timely response we received on both occasions. The amount charged for this work was not unreasonable, particularly given the time and the emergency nature of the initial visit. However, we do feel that since the keyless entry pad was installed during the same visit as the replacement spring, some consideration regarding labor/travel costs for that part of the service would have been appropriate. We also feel that the 30 day warranty on service provided is rather short. Having said that, we are pleased with this provider, would absolutely utilize their services again, and would have no hesitation in referring others to them.

They're fine. Then the next time I may have been searching for them and call them recently, but we figured that it was not worth thing the service they put on to come out the garage door opener with over 10 years older. It sounded like from everything that I could research on-line it was just probably to be replaced. So, I just have to replace it. They were very professional. When they came out, they did what was said to be done. I don't know a lot about garage doors but they seem to know what they were doing. Prices appear to be a little bit more expensive than elsewhere.

Erik (technician) was prompt and extremely patience with EVERY question I asked. He went straight to the issue and explained to me that this was something common with any garage door. This without first going into detail as to what needed to be done to correct problem and prevent future issues. I would recommend Erik with Overhead Door of Traverse City to anyone.

The house is a 1910 house so we wanted a door in keeping with the date of the house. Wn\hen they measured to see if our first choice would fit they found that it did not. In the discussion with them about a different model they were very good at helping us find one that was very much in keeping with the style we wanted - our desires came first and the salesman we had did not try and talk us into something. we did not want. The job was done very soon after we arranged on the final door choice.. Though the house is in Michigan and we still live in Baltimore, friends and relatives who have driven by say it looks very nice. All the people we delt with at Overhead door were very knowledgeable and helpful. They were not the cheapest deal, but we are quite happy with their work and what we got. I would easily recommend the company to others who want a garage door.

The problem turned out to be a simple switch I did not know about (I had just bought the house). My husband had hit it inadvertantly and didn't know what it was. The guy just walked in and switched it and problem over. I thought perhaps that might have been suggested to check over the phone. They were nice and polite, though,

There were a couple of problems with the installation and doors that the company corrected immediately. They were very concerned about these mishaps and corrected the problems quickly.
