"I can’t say enough good about Five Star. Courteous and professional before, during, and after the sale. I had a unique problem where they temporarily used a new adhesive which caused caulk discoloration. After several attempts to fix it, they ripped whole thing out and redid it with the proven adhesive. Outstanding product and customer service."

Family owned and operated, we have been serving metro Detroit, including Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties since 1985. Our plumbing professionals respect your home (or business) and always treat you just like family. That’s why we say….’you’ve got family in the plumbing business!’ If you are in the market for a professional plumber that will exceed all your expectations, contact Putman & Sons Plumbing today! MICHIGAN LICENSE #94473

"! have a lot to say. It has been over a year since my last residential service from Putman, and that should give you some idea of how bad a job they did if I still come here to talk about it. Let me start by saying that the majority of people in their crew aren't licensed master plumbers, and they are highly incompetent. The most competent person I worked with (I did over 10k worth of various projects with them) was named John and he would be considered incompetent too. John installed all new trims throughout my master bathroom. Since we were remodeling we hardly ever used the bath tub, so when ceiling stains showed up we called them back (and PAID for their time to look at the stains). John said he couldn't think of a reason for a leak when he opened up the drain. I happened to notivce a smaller amount of water stains under another bathroom floor, so I had him look at that too. Sure enough, he said he thought it was from the kids splashing in the tub. Some weeks later the wall cabinets of our laundry room under the master bathroom mysteriously fell OUT of the drywall and the stain was growing. That is when we called a different company. We opened up our drywall and found the leak just in time. It was a bad seal on the drain. It had not been screwed in very tight and no putty was used. This had been done by John. So, yes we spent over a thousand dollars fixing the damage john caused, and when we notified Putman of what happened, they refused to cover any of the repairs (another plumber, a carpenter, and a painter) because we had called another company. In fact, they denied it was caused by them in the first place. I have the photos and videos of the damage. And the leak in the second bathroom? I went ahead and tore into the drywall of the ceiling below, and sure enough, it was a leaking pipe. Another repair; at opening drywall on this one was necessary and less repair was needed since we caught it in time. (that is what plumbers are supposed to do). So, this was the last thing. But prior to that, they installed a laundry room for me, and one of their plumbers cut a power line and didn't tell anyone. Fortunately we caught it thanks to an electrician we hired the days before we were installing 3k worth of tile in that room, or else we would have had a live wire under our floor. So, these are the issues we experienced with Putman. Of, John also tried really hard to sell me a huge job we didn't need done on another ouse we own nearby that is much older, claiming the main line under the house had dissolved with age. Apparently, according to another plumber from another company we talked to, this is a common scam in that neighborhood over by Tienken. Oh and I almost forgot:; John was over billing me for his time. Putman was nice about fixing that one when I complained, and it was these little things that had me going for so long, giving them more chances. But the final straw was the massive water damage and leaks that were a direct result of their incompetence. This is a small family owned company and all I can say is that if you are in the market for a plumber to do anything more than unclog a toilet: wait. Put it off. Now is a bad time to hire a plumber for major jobs in Rochester."

Bathtub Restoration questions, answered by experts

As with any project, refinishing your bathtub presents pros and cons to consider, such as:

Pros

  • The job is typically quick, and your tub is ready within 48 hours.

  • Your bathtub looks new.

  • You don’t need to tear out the old tub and replace it with a new one.

  • You can customize it with the color of your choice.

  • You can’t tell the bathtub has been refinished.

Cons

  • Refinished bathtubs can be slippery.

  • Not all refinishing products are created equal.

  • You need to wait up to 48 hours before using the bathtub.

Yes, you can use a dremel tool to cut plexiglass. Follow the instructions under “How to Cut Plexiglass with a Saw,” and use a dremel tool with a 561 bit instead of a saw.

While tubs are fairly sturdy, you may notice cracks or holes. This kind of damage can happen from someone accidentally dropping something heavy into the tub. You might also see damage if you drop something heavy into the tub over and over again (like your extra large bottle of body wash). While you might only notice a small dent at first, this can later turn into a crack or a hole.

Also, certain cleaners that are harmful to your tub can cause damage. And if you have a fiberglass tub, you might see cracks if it was not installed properly with the right support.

Routine cleaning with light detergents, avoiding abrasives, and timely addressing chips prolong the new surface appearance.

When it comes to cleaning bathrooms, bleach usually comes to mind. But like ammonia, bleach can damage acrylic tubs. In fact, many tub manufacturers warn against using bleach on acrylic bathtubs, and doing so could void the warranty on your tub. Again, a gentler cleaner specifically made for acrylic tubs, or one of the homemade methods listed above, is your better bet here.
