We have taken my 2009 Kia Sportage in to Hal's for several years. They have ALWAYS gone above and beyond! They are extremely professional and very knowledgeable. Bill, the General Manager, is exceedingly kind - and patient! My husband and I give them FOUR thumbs up!!

Friendly, courteous service and fairly comfortable waiting area. A part needed to be brought in by courier, delaying completion of the work, but fortunately a lunch was available at a restaurant within easy walking distance.

I was going to be charged 407+ dollars to fix a so called broken 'door latch' which ended up bring a broken door actuator (informed by another machanic). That kind of repair should not cost over 200 dollars so I took my car back . . . After paying 100 dollars just to get it back. I did not have any work done but had to pay that ridiculous amount of money for nothing. If I had been informed that this shop only used parts from the dealer I would have never gone here - that's why I avoided the dealer to begin with. I took it elsewhere and only paid 168 and my driver side door is back to normal.
Response from Hal's Auto Clinic
"Dear Customer, I apologize for our misdiagnosis. We pride ourselves on making the correct diagnosis. I make sure all my technicians go through at least 20 hrs of on going training per year. Rest assured if we had started on this job and found out that it just needed an actuator we would not have replaced the latch and only charged you $168.00. Please contact me for a complete refund. Hal 248-477-5951"

They had to remove several parts and use a torch to get it free. Adam was very knowledgeable and professional. Done one time at the estimated price.

Check Engine Light issue. Replaced mass air flow sensor and air filter. Online estimator priced job from $236 to $375. Hals seemed pricey at $400 (assuming the estimator was accurate). But Hals service was professional, prompt, courteous..

- The people at Hal's were generally friendly and courteous.
- Hal's was able to service my car the day after I called.
- The work was completed that same day, just as the Hal's representatives said.
- Overall, I was satisfied with the work performed, and will consider taking my car back to Hal's for service.
- There were 3 downsides with the experience at Hal's:
  (a) The experience at the write-up desk was a bit chaotic and unorganized.
  (b) I was told the car would be ready earlier than it actually was. A couple hours past the approximate completion time, I called them. No one from Hal's called me to give a better estimate of the completion time.
  (c) The price was a little higher than I was expecting, given the part that Hal's replaced was available for less than 1/3 of the total bill from Hal's. However, I acknowledge that significant labor was involved.
- A couple months after the work was done, I've experienced no issues stemming from the work that Hal's did, so the work was done well.

I originally took my car to the dealership where they claimed it needed a new ac compressor. In total I was quoted just under $1000 so I decided to get a second opinion. Hals charged $89 to inspect the ac system and felt that it was reliable enough to recharge the system instead of replacing the ac compressor. They applied the $89 towards the recharge fee so for an additional $40 I was out the door. Its only been a week and I haven't used the air a whole lot but so far so good.

Hal's is a place you can trust, to me that is one of the most important aspects of an auto repair shop. I am proud to say Hal's is my mechanic.

Very smooth and professional.  Very good job of explaining exactly what they were going to do, what they found and the various options and costs to repair the problem as well as the consequences of just living with the problem instead of paying to fix it.
