"They went above and beyond a basic job, were very cooperative at every turn, even leveled out ground around the pipe they installed underground which was not so level before. I highly recommend them, but I did not check other prices for the same job, so can't really speak how price competitive they are. But I would hire them again."

Customers say: True professional

"I used Building Performance Solutions several years ago to insulate a crawl space and the rim joist on my house. Alex was great to work with and was always the consummate professional. I noticed that my neighbor (a builder) used him to insulate his new house and walked over to talk to Alex one afternoon. We discussed my upcoming project and I used him again for the insulation on my addition. I had him check an area in the house that was always either cold or hot and he determined the space above the area was a none insulated attic area. I had him insulate the area and haven't had an issue since. I would highly recommend his company and use his services again if needed."

"This job went much better than I could have ever imagined! Rob and his wife were very friendly, honest, professional, thorough and a pleasure to work with. Rob explained the job in detail before it started and it went just as planned. When finished, they cleaned up the garage floor and left it looking great. The 20' x 9' cement slab had dropped 3" in one corner and there was a crack across it. When they finished, both slabs were level and it looked great! I would recommend them highly! If you have any questions, please call me at 734.589.7879."

"They did everything they said they were going to do and they saved me a lot of money. The custom cabinets look amazing! They were even able to custom build all of my great ideas I showed them on Pinterest. They made it very easy and fun for me and it was finished faster than estimated. The quality and service was top notch. I love showing off my new home to my friends. I highly recommend Kraftwood and would use them again."

"Did a fantastic job remodeling our basement for the purpose of reselling our home. Helped us keep the costs down, while still getting nice results. Brett and John worked with us to get past some design problems and had good suggestions on how to handle things. Didn't hesitate to discuss the job with us and listened to our input. Will definitely hire them again."

"I spoke with roughly every foundation repair business within 25 miles of my home, and all gave me vastly different solutions upon seeing my home. Based on the research I did (online articles, reddit, etc.) Russ's solution aligned with everything I was looking for without me having to lead him there. We had new I-beams installed (plus several carbon fiber straps because my stairs hug the wall), new internal drain system, one wall re-aligned (with exterior waterproofing including hauling away clay soil and backfilling with peastone), and tuckpointing. It was a huge job to say the least, but the quality of work done was outstanding. During the job he will call you over to educate you on everything he's doing. His #1 priority is making sure you (as the customer) are 100% satisfied with the work being done. You always have the opportunity to ask questions, alter the solution, or add-on additional work. He has a solution for everything. With all that being said, you'll probably have to wait awhile, and it's on you to keep the line of communication open. My advice to you is if you don't hear from him after consultation/quote, follow up with him, try to gauge when work will be able to start, and follow up as the date gets closer. He runs one crew at a time so that he can oversee the job, he does every consultation/estimate himself, so it's challenging for him to chase everyone down to see if they're interested. Most companies want to get in and out as fast as possible, cutting corners, etc. Russ doesn't operate that way and will make sure the solution implemented is bulletproof. Your patience will be rewarded. It was great to meet everyone on the crew, big thanks again to Russ, Russell (son), Jake, Jay, David, and Tez!"

House Leveling questions, answered by experts

Generally speaking, push piers—or steel piers—are the best option for underpinning, as they reach down to solid bedrock to find support for your foundation rather than relying on soil, which could be subject to the same issues as the soil directly below your foundation. However, the best underpinning method for your home depends on your location, how far down the bedrock is, and the type of soil in your area. Helical piers are usually the best option for sandy soil or in areas where the bedrock is too deep to use steel piers.

Polyjacking can be a permanent solution to sunken concrete if you also address the underlying issue—like poor drainage—at the same time. The polyurethane material itself can last as long as or even outlast the concrete you’re lifting it with. Your sunken concrete issue will likely return if you don’t couple polyjacking with proper drainage to prevent future soil movement and sinking.

Mudjacking typically takes 24 to 72 hours (one to three days) to dry and cure completely before you can resume normal use. The exact time can vary depending on the size of the project. Because the slurry mixture contains cement, it must fully harden to ensure that added weight from walking, furniture, or vehicles won't shift the concrete slab. A professional contractor can advise you on when the surface is safe to use. For comparison, if you use polyjacking instead, the polyurethane foam can dry in just a few minutes, but it's best to wait about an hour before use.

Mudjacking is suitable for sidewalks, driveways, patios, and nearly all exterior flat structures. However, it may not suit severely damaged or heavily cracked areas.

Concrete leveling is absolutely worth it if you have sunken concrete slabs and want to restore them to level, especially if the slab is part of your home foundation. Concrete leveling is less than half the price of replacing concrete sidewalks, patios, walkways, and pool decks, and it’s about a quarter of the cost of replacing a foundation. If you also treat the underlying problem, it can be a worthwhile and permanent solution.
