"I am so glad I found this company! I first tried using Mr Rooter. They charged me $308 and didn’t fix the problem. They said I needed to dig up my floor and quoted me $1400 to start. The tech also left a mess. I called Minuteman to get another estimate. Dylan Secord arrived and he was very prompt, knowledgeable and efficient. He was able to pull out the roots that were causing the drain problem at a fraction of the cost ($175). Dylan cleaned up the mess and left everything tidy. "Awful experience. Discussed with them prior to the contract what we wanted done. They brought a vague contract pricing out all the work, which we assumed was everything we had asked for. This was after it took them about a month to even get started. We secured financing for the work, but when the work started, a number of things we had discussed weren't what they were doing at all. We had discussed a jacuzzi style tub with jets and wiring going into the wall with that, and that is not the tub that we got. They offered to replace it, but of course, that was going to cost more. We asked to have a plumbing leak inspected and fixed in another bathroom, that we were then told we understood would be covered in the contract and financing that we had secured. Once work began, suddenly that was going to cost us more. What should have been a 2 week project at most that we called in June to have fixed, I'm writing on October 4th, and after waiting for 2 days being told the painter will "be there today" and holding my daily plans for that, finally he showed on the 3rd day. Now I'm left with an unfinished wall in the room they were projected to work on, and a gaping hole in my bathroom wall upstairs because as a disabled veteran on a fixed income that had secured financing for everything, I can't suddenly handle the surprise charges like putting the wall back together where they cut it out, despite a detailed discussion prior to the start of work that they would build an access panel into that wall. If you have work you need to get done, you're better off holding your pipes together and hoping the hard water we get locally leaves behind enough residue to eventually patch the leak itself than hiring these guys. Would not do business with again."

If the toilet is overflowing but there’s no clog, that’s a sign that the issue is deeper in the system, and plunging may not help. A blockage in your home’s plumbing, the plumbing vent, or even city sewer lines can cause toilets to overflow. The issue could also be the toilet itself if the filler float isn’t set to the correct height or if parts are damaged or worn out.

Main sewer lines can clog for several reasons. For example, if you regularly dump oil or grease down your drain, it could eventually block your line. Sometimes, tree roots can penetrate and grow inside old sewer pipes, creating a major blockage. Flushing bulky items (like paper towels, diapers, or baby wipes) can also clog your plumbing system.

Ejector pumps can only push sewage 750 feet or less. That’s because their purpose is to move waste from your home to your sewer line—which is a relatively short distance. Grinder pumps can transport sewage further, but they manage lower volumes of waste than ejector pumps (and they don’t work with septic systems).

Bleach isn’t likely to help unclog a sewer line. Bleach isn’t useful in this situation because it won’t dissolve the grime and debris in the clog. Instead, you want to use ingredients that will have a chemical reaction to clear out the buildup, like vinegar or salt and baking soda.

Thankfully, it’s pretty rare to find a rat in your toilet. It’s more likely in larger cities with big sewer systems that can be feeding grounds for rats, but even then, you still shouldn’t fret. 

“I wouldn’t worry too much about rats coming up through the sewers,” Bradshaw says. “I’d say only one out of a thousand rodent customers we get actually have this problem. And of the 20 or some customers that have had this happen, they’ve all only had just one rat come up this way.”
