Had to have Jim back out this year (2017) to clear out my drain line from the kitchen to the main drain. While he was here, had him run back through the main line as a preventative service. Plan on having him back each year as a preventative measure.

I do not recommend this business. I used this business based on positive reviews and was very happy the first visit which was reasonable. On the last visit charges were added for mileage and removing a toilet which did not help. The clog returned a few weeks later and I was charged an additional nearly $300. I was very concerned about the quality of the service and costs. I attempted to speak to the owner Jeff. He was very argumentative and refused to even listen to my concerns instead insulting my family for what caused the clog. It was extremely rude. I believe in letting an owner know when things are not right but this owner does not care. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this business. Fortunately, with Angies List consumers can relay their experiences.
Response from J & A Drain Cleaners
"Mrs. [Member Name Removed] hired our company to clean the sewer line in her home approximately a week prior to Thanksgiving. She stated they were expecting guests over the holidays and wanted to make sure the line was clear. We arrived and performed the sewer cleaning service as discussed. There was nothing plugging the line at this visit. Mr. [Member Name Removed] called us back the evening of December 22nd and stated the sewer line was plugged and requested a service person be sent out that evening. Upon arrival, the service person assessed the situation, determined the sewer line was plugged and spoke to Mr. [Member Name Removed] regarding the problem. They discussed possible causes for the problem including the plumbing set up and the possibility of something other than normal waste and paper being flushed down the line and that there would be a charge for opening the line if either of these were the cause of the problem. The service person also gave Mr. [Member Name Removed] a price for cleaning the sewer line prior to beginning the service. At this point Mr. [Member Name Removed] stated that if we charged him he would leave a negative review on Angies list. The service person augered the sewer open and removed feminine hygiene products from the line, which had caused the blockage. The service person then showed Mr. [Member Name Removed] and explained that that type of material should not be flushed down the line in the future in order to prevent a re-occurrence. Mr. [Member Name Removed] then signed the invoice and paid for the service."

I called for an appointment and was able to have the repairperson come the next day when I already planned to be available. The repairperson arrived on time and was quickly able to clear the sewer line.

Jeff gave great advice on vendors to help out with excavation and plumbing, after he diagnosed that the sewer line was irreparable. He did all those in extremely bad weather. I really appreciated his responsiveness.

I am helping a friend with a renal house she owns and am only guessing at the age of the home. I have called Jand A to this home in the past and the same professional experience I have with them in my own home.
Clint is very personable and efficient. Concerned about keeping the work area clean. Has to walk through the carpeted area of the house to get to the basement stairs; concerned about carpet.
I' have used this company for MANY years in my own home and have never had anything but a professional experience. I call them to do preventative maintenance so I don't have to clog their schedule with an emergency call. Works for me!

He was very thorough and prompt on the second appointment. The first one he missed because his scheduler was on vacation and he apologized. Not only did he apologize, he came on a Saturday and charged me his customary week day rate. I would hire him again for price fairness and comprehensive nature of his inspection process.

I called around 10:00 in the morning and explained we had a toilet that was slow draining after the flush and we had experienced this problem in the past, but it normally would eventually return to normal particularly if we plunged it. This time it did not. The man arrived at 1:00 pm,the time of the appointment the same day and proceeded to auger out the pipe through the bottom of the toilet. It took all of 5 minutes and was fixed. He was very professional and personable however I thought the charge was a little excessive($115) for the amount of time it took to fix the problem, but it was probably their minimum charge. Although the bathroom was not carpeted he didn't put down anything such as a paper tarp to protect the floor. I am probably nit picking too much on that issue, but an A means a little more effort in that department. Overall I was very satisfied. He also left a couple of suggestions such as flush more than once because the new toilets do not produce enough water to carry waste effectively.

The drain was unclogged. However, it was later to find out that there was outside clean-out already when the excavator was installing the clean-out. But it was already damaged by the excavator. We ended up to pay a lot of more because of this.

From the first call they were courtious and responsive. They were there in a few hours and did a great job. The work was professional and clean. I would have no concerns having them in our home at anytime. Better yet, the first cleaning didn't get it all and six days later the blockage was back. They came right away and did an extensive cleaning making sure we ouldn't have any more problems. They did not hestitate to come back and get it right at no furhter costs. This is what counts they stand behind their work. My wife was very pleased that I made the right choice.

The phone call eas very professional and they listened well. They offered appointments around our work schedule. He arrived on time in a clean company truck. He identified himself with a pictured business card and wore a company shirt and jacket. He was respectful of our home by using clean drop cloths and booties. His equipment was clean and up-to-date. When he finished the area he worked in was left clean and neat. He also explained what the cause was and how to correct it in the future.

Jand A were there within about hour of my call, arriving exactly when they said they would be there, and quickly took care of the clog with a power auger. They put paper down and cleaned up after. They were personable, courteous very professional. Could not have been better.

At first we tried to clear out the drain ourselves, with a snake turned by our electric drill. We spent over an hour at it and burned out the drill, not to mention getting black slime splattered around the kitchen and on ourselves. The drain was still plugged. Next day we selected J and A Drain Cleaning from Angie's List. Their guy came right over, did the same thing we had done, but had way better equipment. The job was completed in 15 minutes. He put down protective paper liner under our sink beforehand, wiped everything clean afterward, and advised us to sanitize everything with Lysol. His suggestion for keeping it clear in the future was to fill the sink once a month with very hot tap water, then let it all go down at once. This company does have a camera for inspecting the insides of larger pipes when needed. Their rate was far lower than others I checked.

This was not an emergency, we have 2 toilets and only one was slow to flush, not flushing completely. I called and scheduled service for the next day. A young man, Clint, arrived at the expected time, did the job in a friendly and professional manner and explained how the blockage in the sewer line was really what was causing the toilet problem. He put clean paper down around the drain access and used a matt under his router, he ran the sewer line, the toilet runs great. He cleaned up well, though there was some splash from the roots/router near where he cleaned. I'm a neat/germ freak so I used a disinfectant even after he wiped up after himself with paper towel. There were also some wet marks where the router wheels left some dirt rolling through my house, but there's 5 inches of snow outside, so I expected to need to clean up a bit more after he left. I would recommend J and A Drain Cleaners - It's a dirty job, and they got it done at a reasonable price with minimal clean up for me. I'm happy.
