"What was supposed to be a routine drain snaking but turned out to be something more serious. Jeff explained what was going on very clearly and came back the next day to fix the problem. He was very professional and answered all my questions. I’m very satisfied with the results I will recommend him to anyone needing a plumber."

"this was a great experience from the return phone call from the cheerful/sweet office personnel, getting a quote the same day, to the hard working crew that installed it the following day. every single person here was very respectful of us and our home. they got our tankless water heater installed and ran 2 gas lines. it did take longer than we expected but the gentleman installing everything was professional and a pleasure to be around so we didn’t mind. everyone is very knowledgeable when it came to any questions we had. there was no i’m not sure, i’ll find out or anything like that. there was no mess while working or after they left. prices were good and they didn’t charge the $200-$300 service fee for the estimate like these other companies out there. that did place a small percentage in why we went with them. we are definitely happy choosing this company for this project and we will definitely be using them for all future needs. we highly recommend them."

"Though more accomplished than expected, the workers surprised me with a failed result. They couldn't put the project back together correctly; everyone saw something was off. Outside the stall looked fine, but the tile they "replaced" was actually the original, just poorly handled. They left the last row unfinished after hitting a curve hard and breaking the tile apart. Instead of using a diamond saw for a clean $400 straight cut, they took a shortcut that ruined the piece. The tile broke jaggedly, so they tried to hide the damage by burying the break line under piles of caulk and extra material. Now, the fracture is "leaking" through the mess. Worse, they left a metal tool inside the assembly, blocking water flow. While the drain placement was okay, the plumbing is now a disaster. They tore up the floor unnecessarily when they could have just cut small plugs around the pipe, swapped the plastic, and used thinnest Because of their "gung-ho" attitude and lack of communication."

"HomeSpec did a fantastic job!! The initial visit was to assess and quote the cost. Everything was explained in excellent detail, and a quotation was provided. Basically the basement floor was removed around the entire periphery of the basement using a jack hammer. They removed the concrete floor coming out about one foot from the wall. Then a trench was dug down about eight inches from the top of the foundation, or below the bottom of the concrete floor. The new drain pipe was installed with pea gravel stones around the entire basement foundation to my sump pump. The original drain pipes were left in and continue to drain. The new drain pipe is basically sitting just above it and enters my sump pit. A large section of my basement is finished, and they were able to do this work without a major tear up (depending on your perspective). Basically they removed about 18 inches of dry wall, removed the base plate, with the wall hanging freely from the upper floor joist. They were able to do all the work I described above leaving the wall hanging. After they finished, they reinstalled a new base plate, drywall, and filled in all the joints with joint compound. All I have to do is prime and paint it. A couple final notes. They added about 5 flush out points around the entire system. This allows me to 1) see inside the pipe and the water level, 2) easily snake out the drain pipe if needed, and/or flush it out with a hose. This is a really valuable feature. The workers were great... these guys worked there tails off. The main work consisted of a Team Leader, with a crew of 3 - 4 guys. Communication was very good.. I always knew what was going on. They arrived between 8:00 - 9:00 AM everyday, and worked until 7:00 PM... one night until 10:00PM. Adding the new drain system itself took 3 days, and another 2 days to do the finished area with dry wall. This could have been done in one day, but the joint compound needed to dry... so they're limited. I am so please with the job this company has done, and it's a lifetime warranty that's transferable if you sell the house. Based on what I see, I'm very confident the problem is fixed. We just had some heavy rain over the weekend, and not a drop of water anywhere. For anyone experiencing the water seepage I described above, you can feel confident with HomeSpec to do a quality job, and fix the problem. One last note... this is a messy job. They do take every precaution to limit the dust and dirt by laying down plastic on the stairway, walkways, and covering everything in the basement, but you need to realize dust is going to be in the air. But, the job has to get done if you have this problem, and I was very pleased with all the prep work they did to limit the dust."

"Russ and his team took care of us and I am very pleased with the work they did. They stayed in regular communication, explaining the work as they went, and completed the job on-time. His candor and willingness to education me on the process of the work, as well as his thorough explanation of the material costs, made me feel reassured that I hired the correct contractor. Most importantly, we no longer have water in our basement whenever there is moderate to heavy rain. Thank you for everything!!"

"As the representative of Bushnell Apartments, the crew of Jason M, Emmanuel B., Gibran S., and Kyle B. did a remarkable job installing our new drain tile and two sump pumps. They worked efficiently and meticulously in the preparation for the installation. They were very professional, kind, and respectful in completing this project. The foreman, Jason, led his crew in a very well organized manner. Professionalism is the work I would use to describe the work performed by this crew. All debris was cleaned up after the job was completed and Jason showed me the work that had been done. I was very pleased! I will recommend FSM to colleagues and friends. "Overall we were very pleased with the work done, and the changes made will hopefully be lasting positive change. Quote Process - The initial visit was by far the most thorough we had, with a lot of effort made by Jackie (the owner) to visualize and then communicate the vision. It took a while for the quote process to get underway, and some of that probably had to do with the pandemic timing and how busy all landscapers were after resumption of activities in Michigan. Once it started, there was good engagement and a lot of good planning communication. Timing - While the quote process took a while as described, once the quote was issued, the lead time was very competitive, and the time to do the work was quick given the amount of work done. Communication - Overall, communication was very thorough and effective before, during, and after the job. Since we had time and cost overruns during the job, Jackie was good at summarizing the cost status every night or morning to let us know where things stood. Communication during the job could have been a little more frequent, but as the customer, I struggled with trying to manage the job while working from home, avoiding too much contact due to the coronavirus pandemic, and letting them do their jobs without micromanaging them. A few things might have been miscommunicated or misunderstood both ways, but the vast majority of the communication was good. Quality - The quality of work done was overall very good. Jackie made our property look much better with her vision, and the installations were done well. There was a fair amount of damage to the grass on our property to the grading and moisture level (it had rained the day before they were there), and while they did seed and smooth (which has since grown in well), there were some areas that they didn't see that could have used it and are still a bit damaged. Price - Hourly costs and plant costs seemed very reasonable and competitive. The overall cost of our job had significant overruns, but mainly because there were several unforeseen issues that had to be dealt with and likely could not have been known during the quote phase (all under the ground stuff you wouldn't find until you dig). Efforts were made during installation to minimize cost because of this, and a cost cap was set to avoid a massive overrun to be fair to us as the customer, which I thought was unique and customer-focused. Post-Installation Help - I reached out a few times after the job was completed to ask advice and Jackie was very helpful and thorough in her replies. I think this is something that a lot of landscapers don't care to do, and I think it should be celebrated that someone takes time to build a more lasting relationship instead of an "on to the next job" philosophy. I would definitely hire them for future jobs, even more so with the knowledge that jobs after coronavirus is under control would be easier to more freely communicate during the job."

Drain Pipe Installation questions, answered by experts

Professional plumbers use many high-grade chemicals to unclog drains. Many use hydrochloric acid, known as muriatic acid, when it comes to extreme blockages.

You can pour hot water down your gutter drain to melt ice and keep ice dams from forming. If the problems persist, consider investing in heat cables to run in your gutters. Heat cables can adjust based on the surrounding temperature to keep ice thawed.

Food grease, soap buildup, paper products, and tree roots often cause serious clogs.

You can unclog an AC drain line for free if you already have these household ingredients: water, vinegar, and rags. Alternatively, if you’d rather not deal with the mess, you can hire a pro to clear your drain line. If you go that route, an HVAC service call costs between $100 and $250.

If you want to avoid using a snake to unclog a drain, or if you don’t have one, try vinegar and baking soda. Pour 1 cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by 1 cup of white vinegar. Wait for 15 minutes, and then run hot water (but not boiling water) down the drain to see if the clog is clear. Repeat multiple times as needed.
