Over the next twenty-three years, Mr. Mauer developed a highly respected specialty foundation contracting company, serving the State of Maryland. Unfortunately, Mr. Mauer died tragically in 2014. "This one-star rating is generous! We are seven weeks into a four-day job at our house! The have been back three times to finish the job and it is still not done. My back yard is a mud pit! I have been informed by the "office" that it will take two more weeks before I can be put on the schedule for a crew to come back. The crew is working from their Lancaster office, and the managers won't return phone calls and are hiding behind the receptionist. I work just a few miles from their Lexington office, so I decided to pop in and talk to a different person only to find out that there is no staff in this office. The website for the Lexington office has a picture of the building and posted hours of 9 am to 6 pm, but it is just a building with mailboxes and a few shared meeting rooms used by several companies. Customer service is absolutely horrible. Think twice before hiring USS!"

Concrete Leveling questions, answered by experts

Yes, fiber concrete can crack, and contrary to popular belief, it will crack under similar forces to rebar-reinforced concrete. The difference is in how the crack spreads through the slab. When you exert pressure on a slab, the slab flexes downward, putting tensile forces on the bottom of the slab. In rebar concrete, a crack at the bottom will also quickly appear on the top surface. In fiber concrete, the fibers hold the two sides of that bottom crack together, making it less likely for the crack to form on the top surface.

Penetrating sealer seeps into concrete pores to protect it from moisture and staining, cracking, and mold caused by water. This means you cannot remove penetrating sealers like topical sealers. The good news is that penetrating sealant doesn’t have to be removed before resealing, as most topical sealers must. Instead, you’ll want to buy a compatible penetrating sealant (often the same kind already in the concrete) and apply it. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Polished concrete floors also have downsides. Some homeowners, for example, might dislike the coldness of the material (though area rugs can help warm up the space). Concrete floors are also hard, which isn’t always ideal for children and pets. What’s more, these floors are susceptible to cracking, and repairs can be costly. Some homeowners might not like that installation isn’t DIY-friendly. 

There are quite a few differences between concrete and asphalt. Concrete is more costly up front and more challenging to repair. Asphalt does better in cold climates and works well with radiant heat systems. Porous asphalt is also excellent for wet climates, as it allows the water to drain away. However, it does get unpleasantly hot in the summer and requires more maintenance than concrete.

Ideally, your concrete should set slightly above ground at an angle sloping away from the fence post. This will add extra support and allow water to run away from the wood fence post. Keeping water out will help prevent wood rot. Additionally, you can add soil on top of the concrete for a seamless finish.
