"We contracted RCL Remodeling to assist with some drywall repairs in our DC townhome last month and were extremely pleased with their professional and thorough approach to their work. The two-man crew that worked on our unit did a fantastic job and were extremely communicative both before and during the repairs. We will definitely hire RCL Remodeling again should we need any additional work done on our house."

"I hired Gibbs Painting to make some drywall repairs following a kitchen remodel and had them paint the ceiling in two different rooms. My interaction with them was very professional. From the estimate to the completion of the work, everything went very well. They completed the work In the amount of time they stated, left the house in excellent condition, and the on-site team was very easy to work with. I would hire them again to do work inside my house and would recommend them to others."

"Bill Smith recently completed drywall work, painting, electrical, and fencing work for me. Bill's pricing is excellent compared to other handymen and contract companies. Bill is punctual and polite. He has worked on multiple projects for me over the years and has done an excellent job on each of them. Highly recommend!"

"Omar's did a great job replacing the ceiling on our three-season porch when it began to buckle. They offered an option to patch the damaged part or to replace the whole thing; we went with the latter. It took two days; the ceiling was done the first day, and then they took the second to paint. I was pleased with their work and would happily hire them again."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

It’s always better to follow proven drywall repair tips and fix the seams that look bad. However, if you simply want to make them less noticeable until you have time to fix them, you can use paint. A darker color of paint makes bad drywall tape seams less noticeable than light-colored paint. Matte paint hides bad seams better than glossy paint does, too.

If your premixed drywall mud is dried out or has begun to set in the bucket, you may be able to revive it by adding warm water and stirring. However, the first and most important step is to scrape off any hard, dried bits of drywall that may have accumulated toward the top of the container and throw them away because they will not easily reconstitute back into the drywall mud mix.

Whether you need a drywall anchor depends on the specifics of your project, particularly what you're hanging and where. You do not need a drywall anchor if you can screw or nail the object directly into a wooden stud, as the wood provides sufficient support and stability. However, if there are no studs in the location where you plan to hang the item, you should use drywall anchors to ensure it is securely supported. For very lightweight objects, like small pictures, adhesive picture hanging strips can be a suitable alternative to anchors.

A local drywall contractor can texture your drywall for you. Drywall contractors are a better choice than general handy people because the contractors have a lot of experience working with drywall mud. The process is somewhat of an art thanks to the complexity of working with the mud, so call in a drywall pro who knows what they’re doing.

Yes, you can hammer a nail into a wall stud. But before you do, it’s important to confirm that you’re actually nailing into a stud—and not wiring, pipes, or ductwork. To check, find a few more studs in the wall, then measure to make sure they’re either 16 or 24 inches apart.
