"Paul and his team were great. We replaced most of our windows as well as an old wooden window. We were concerned that the replacement for the wooden window wouldn’t come out as nicely but the replacement was beautiful! We are looking forward to our electric bill this summer."

"I was very happy with response from Eddis. He gave me a quote upfront and followed it up with an invoice via email. I paid him half at the beginning and another half when he came back to install the window. He was very professional and respectful of my house. I will definitely use A.R. Glass again if I have window repair needs."

"The project went great. Max and his guys do a great job. I had pretty much lost confidence in home improvement contractors until I met Max and Fox Creek Builders. He does what he says and his installers do what they say and do it with quality. Fox Creek has redone the entire outside of my house. He did windows and the siding last year and then they just did my roof and like before I am extremely satisfied with the quality of work."

"I recently had my windows replaced and I?m really happy with how everything turned out. The process was straightforward and everything was explained clearly without it feeling like a sales pitch. Installation went smoothly. The crew showed up on time, worked efficiently, and cleaned everything up before leaving. The biggest thing I?ve noticed is how much more comfortable the house feels. There are no more drafts and everything feels tighter and quieter. The windows also made a noticeable difference in how the house looks from both inside and out. Overall a really good experience."

Windows questions, answered by experts

Your new windows may let in more noise than your old windows because they are not the right size or they were installed improperly. Improper installation, or choosing windows that are too small for the opening, can create gaps around the window that let in noise.

Another factor could be the STC and OITC ratings. If your new windows have lower ratings than your old windows, this means they have lower performance when it comes to dampening noise from the outdoors.

No, windows cannot be made 100% soundproof. Even the most advanced setups still allow some sound to pass through because windows are designed to let in light and are not completely sealed from the outside. While you cannot achieve complete silence, significant noise reduction is possible, with some noise-reduction windows blocking up to 95% of outside noise.

The goal is to minimize air gaps, add mass, and reduce vibration. To block out as much noise as possible, consider hiring a professional to install new double-pane, triple-pane, or laminated windows. You can further enhance soundproofing with airtight seals, glass inserts, shutters, or sound-dampening curtains. With the right upgrades, you can block out traffic, neighbors, and other city noise to a much quieter level.

Installing energy-efficient windows costs between $325 and $2,000, averaging about $400 per window. You’ll have to consider cost factors like the window’s size, frame material, and type. Labor costs in your area will also impact the overall cost of the project, with window installation professionals charging about $40 per hour on average. Different types of energy-efficient windows include:

  • Single-hung: $150–$2,500

  • Casement: $150–$600

  • Double-hung: $250–$3,000

  • Picture: $200–$650

  • Bay: $480–$1,920

Contrary to popular belief, wavy glass in older homes isn't caused by warping. The blowing technique used to create windows in homes dating back to the 1700s, 1800s, and early 1900s left behind small bubbles that create a wavy effect. If a glass window is functional, there's no need to consider wavy glass damaged. In fact, many homeowners prefer the old charm of wavy glass.

Picture windows are still in style, even though they are one of the oldest types of windows. Other windows, like single- or double-hung windows and casement windows, have increased in popularity because they can open up for fresh air. However, homeowners still love the way a picture window can frame their lush outdoor garden or other pleasant neighborhood views.
