The new windows and doors work flawlessly, look fantastic, and have cut outside noise too boot. The new siding and trim work look fantastic. The original siding around our carport had a cap over the top that fell away, and the team came up with a different way to attach the siding so that problem wouldn't happen again. "After waiting months for another roofing company to even start work on a new roof, I reached out to a couple new companies. Brian from JDH was the first to respond in a couple of hours. The other company said they could come out in something like 10 days to estimate. Brian made an appointment that same day to give an estimate. Brian showed up on time, gave an estimate using not only better materials and warranty but was less than the company I had been waiting months on. I jokingly asked Brian if he could have the roof done the next day, his response was, "Let me check with the supplier, and our schedule". I may have lost consciousness for a moment hearing that reply. Shingles and materials showed up the next day, then a crew 24 hours later and they went to work, (On a Saturday at that). Crew was polite and put tarps around the house to catch any debris and protect everything. Brian showed up several times throughout the day to check progress and address any questions. That day the work was finished. Everything was cleaned up like they were never there, other than a new beautiful roof. I have yet to find a single nail in the yard. Siding underlayment varies based on the type of material, but most siding is installed on top of a vapor barrier, a moisture-resistant house wrap, sheathing made from plywood or oriented strand board (OSB), and a layer of insulation sheeting. Having the correct underlayment is a critical part of properly installing siding and will protect your home from water intrusion, structural damage, and energy loss.
You cannot install clapboard siding on a bare, unprepared surface. Clapboard siding requires a clean, sturdy base made from plywood or similar materials, sometimes called backerboard. Then, it needs an underlayment or sheathing, a moisture membrane to help protect the exterior wall.
Note that sometimes clapboard siding is caulked as it’s installed for additional protection. We don’t suggest this: Caulking the siding can trap moisture inside the clapboards and lead to moisture damage over time. The siding needs some space to “breathe,” especially in rainy weather.
Hail as small as 3/4 inch (about the size of a penny) can cause damage to your siding. When hail reaches 1 inch in size, you can expect to see more cracks, chips, and holes, and hail that’s 1 and 1/4 to 1 and 1/2 inches around will cause significant damage. If you see hail that’s 1 and 1/2 inches to 2 inches or more in size, the damage is likely to be extensive and possibly even dangerous.
No matter what types of metal siding you are cleaning, you should be able to clean them using the same processes you use for aluminum siding. Steel siding and aluminum siding both need cleaning about once per year. You can clean metal siding or aluminum siding without a pressure washer or with one.
