"This was the second plumber we hired to help with a clogged drain in the kitchen. They went above and beyond and fixed the issue the first plumber didn’t! They come and explain what they will do, they do it as cleanly as possible and they explain at the end what they’ve accomplished. I’ve already hired them for a second project (replacing a water heater), and again it was such a great experience! I highly recommend and will be using their services again!"

"I cannot say enough good things about GAC!  I have very high standards and expectations - and for now 6 years GAC has always met and exceeded my expectations.  From the maintenance team that comes out to do the twice a year season checks, to the estimator, management, call center and the installation team - I have not met or spoken to a single person at GAC that was not friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I have had their maintenance contract for years and though my system was old, they always told me it had life left in it and they would do routine tune ups to make sure we were happy.  We finally decided to go with a new system because they were offering 3 years free financing and they told us we had only 1-2 years left on the unit before we'd need to start investing larger amounts in repair and replacement.  Our estimator, Tanner, was very knowledgeable and very thorough. He gave us several options of varying quality of system in a nice comparison chart.  Once we decided on the system we wanted GAC was very helpful in accommodating the installation date that we needed due to work conflicts.  Then our installation team came out and were just lovely!  They were polite, clean, friendly and kept me informed throughout the entire installation process.  In fact, even the owner came out for a site check to ensure that his team was doing OK and to ensure that I was happy.  Hands down one of the best companies I have had the pleasure of dealing with. They have solidified a lifetime customer with my entire family."

"We actually hired J Hoss for two jobs, and they did a great job with both! Both were tricky operations involving the plumbing of an old beach house, and they came up with effective ways of dealing with every issue. The hot water heater install involved moving an old hot water heater out of a crawlspace and putting a new one in in a closet, and the plumbing lines were a bit wacky due to the way the cottage had been added onto over time. But they solved the problems without tearing out any walls, which was great. The other job involved a DIY project installing a bathroom vanity that we got halfway through before realizing we were over our heads. They were game and jumped right in and worked with us to complete the job. We loved how they collaborated with us and were so cheerful about our amateur efforts! Definitely will hire again."

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

No. You should dispose of all oil-based finishing products through a local hazardous waste program. Not only can oil-based finishes be hazardous for the environment if disposed of in the sink, but they can cause clogs in your pipes and stop up your drains. Most municipal garbage or waste disposal companies have a specific location or pick-up schedule for hazardous materials, so that’s your best bet to get rid of excess finishing products.

Yes, frozen pipes can cause a toilet to stop working correctly. If the pipes are frozen, water cannot flow, which can lead to two main problems. First, the supply line to the toilet tank may be frozen, which prevents the tank from refilling with water after you flush. Second, the drain pipe itself can freeze, blocking water from flushing away. As a temporary solution for a non-refilling tank, you can manually add water, but this is not a long-term fix. To clear a frozen drain pipe, you can try pouring warm water into the toilet bowl or tank and then flushing, as the warm water may help thaw the ice blockage. Ultimately, the best course of action is to unfreeze the affected pipes to restore your toilet to full functionality.

The cost to unclog a drain varies based on the location and severity of the clog. For simple clogs within your home, such as in a sink, toilet, or shower, hiring a plumber typically costs between $110 and $350, with an average of around $200. Snaking a toilet or sink usually costs between $110 and $275, while a bathtub or shower clog costs about $225.

For a more serious clog in the main sewer line, the cost is higher. Clearing a main line clog generally costs between $200 and $600, with an average of about $380. However, prices can range from as low as $100 for snaking a minor clog to over $1,600, particularly if advanced methods like video inspection and hydrojetting are needed for a large or hard-to-reach blockage. Some severe main line clogs can cost upwards of $1,000 to clear depending on factors like the cause of the clog, its distance from an accessible cleanout, and whether the pipe is located beneath an occupied space (e.g., in an apartment building). You may be able to save money on minor clogs by using a drain snake or bladder yourself.

Your dishwasher drain hose may have a clog if your dishwasher is full of water, your dishes aren’t getting cleaned, or water takes a long time to discharge into the garbage disposal.

It’s sometimes difficult to distinguish a clog from a frozen drainpipe since ice technically causes a clog. If the temperature doesn’t tip you off, there are a few additional signs that your pipe is frozen. Look for condensation and frost around the pipes. Ice in pipes can cause a banging or clanking noise as opposed to a clog from a softer material.
