"Was polite and professional but didn't have the tools needed to properly unclog my underground gutter drain which was clogged with roots. Tried a mechanical auger that he had but that was all he could do and only pulled thin roots which helped but didn't completely unclog the drain."

"Came promptly the first day I contacted them. Job was to clear a clogged laundry drain buried in slab floor between laundry room and kitchen two rooms away. The construction is old, not up to current code. The job required dismantling fixtures at both ends of line. They worked diligently, explained what they were doing (and current building practice), reassembled everything, and cleaned up thoroughly. They solved the problem! I would hire again, and I recommend."

"Sterling was a great technician he worked extremely hard to clear my toilet drain. They really take pride in there work at this company and completely explained me the process and everything that was involved. I had roots clogging my toilet drain and Sterling was able to locate and remove the root issue and provide me with video evidence of just how clean the drain now is after the service. Very happy with the service provided."

"The plumber was determined to track down the problem and explained to me why I kept having this problem. The drain opening was too narrow and easily became clogged. He replaced it with a new drain with a much larger opening - so it will deter future drain clogs."

"I had an excellent experience with AA Drain and Plumbing from start to finish. Scheduling was easy, he arrived on time, and the technician was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. He took the time to explain the work, answer my questions, and made the entire process stress free. The quality of the installation was outstanding. The new plumbing lines, shut off valves, pressure regulator, and gas line were installed neatly, securely, and with great attention to detail. Everything was well organized, the work area was left clean, and they made sure everything was working properly before they left. I really appreciated his honest communication, fair pricing, and quality workmanship. It's refreshing to work with a company that truly cares about customer service. I highly recommend AA Drain and Plumbing and will definitely use them again for any future plumbing needs."

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

It is generally not recommended to pour hot or boiling water down a drain to unfreeze pipes due to significant risks. In some cases, the sudden temperature change can cause more ice buildup or produce steam, which increases pressure and could cause the pipe to burst, leading to costly damage and potential burn injuries. While hot water might help with a partially frozen drainpipe, it is unlikely to thaw a completely blocked water pipe further down the system. Additionally, boiling water can damage plastic pipes over time. Safer and more effective methods include using a space heater near the frozen section or applying hot towels directly to the pipe.

On average, a plumber will take 30 minutes to two hours to clear a clogged drain. If the clog is located close to the drain or an access point and isn’t severe, the project will take about half an hour. If the clog is deep within your plumbing system or is a severe blockage, it can take two or more hours to remove the clog. For this reason, main line clogs tend to take longer, usually between two and three hours.

There are several homemade solutions for clearing a clogged sink that don’t involve pouring harsh chemicals down your drain. Start by pouring hot (but not boiling) water down the drain. This can help dissolve and flush away grease and gunk. A splash of dish soap down the drain can also cut through fat and make it easier to clear the drain. For a more stubborn blockage, grab a plunger and give it a few firm pumps to dislodge the clog.

It is okay to use a drain auger on a toilet, just make sure you are using the correct tip size. The auger is a plumbing snake with a protective sleeve to protect the porcelain toilet bowl from getting scratched. Using too large of an auger can cause the snake to loop back and damage the inside of the drain and plumbing.

Never pour used motor oil down the drain. Doing so can have serious environmental consequences, including contaminating groundwater, endangering animals, and killing vegetation. It can also clog your pipes, causing backups in your plumbing or the wastewater treatment plant. In most places, pouring motor oil down the drain is illegal, whether you do it in your home or a storm drain.
