"A. R. Glass did a fantastic job. Instead of having to replace my windows, they were able to come in and replace the glass for considerable savings. I would definitely have them come again. In fact, I had them come for a second job already."

"The Premier Windows and Glass has provided an excellent service for me! A frame of one of the windows in my condo was broken, and I looked for a company that would fix it and prolong the life of the window. So, I was very happy to discover The Premier Windows and Glass. Their technician was very polite, professional, and knowledgeable. Not only did he do a quality job on fixing the frame, but he also explained to me what needs to be done to prevent the window from breaking down again and avoid paying a lot of money for its replacement. In addition, the manager and technician responded to my service request in a prompt manner. The problem was solved on the day when I called the company. Last but not least, the company offers competitive service rates and does not push people to spend more money than is absolutely necessary. I would strongly recommend this company to anyone who needs a window to be fixed or replaced."

"I hired this company. They sent me a very professional sales person who spent time with us to show us what they could do to replace just the two leaded glass panels in our solid wood front =door. We were very pleased with the salesman and he gave us lots of information, answered all our questions. We will be visited by the project manager next week to take measurements and then they manufacture the panels and will install them when they are completed."

"Catonsville Custom Framing & Fine Art was beyond excellent. I had a rather large (30x40) piece of art in a professionally done shadow box frame in which the glass had became broken. The original large chain professional framer could not price it exactly because their estimator wasn't there, but gave me a ROM of several hundred dollars and told me to come back. One of the big box craft stores refused to repair it and would only quote a completely new framing. A second big box craft store framing expert carefully examined the frame and said they could do it. Two weeks later when it as supposed to be completed they called, said now it could not be done and to come and pick it up. When I did, it was dismantled into numerous pieces and left in bags! This was no problem Catonsville Custom Framing & Fine Art. Without hesitation, they were able to replace the glass and reassemble it all back together beautifully. They even included a new wall hanger. Best of all, this was all done at half the cost of the big box store and in one day! They were also very friendly. Forget the big box stores with their weekly half off framing coupons and go to this local merchant."

"In October of 2011 we started communications with a few companies on the installation of glass shower doors in our home.   We selected mostly Angie-list vendors plus a few other local companies we found via the web.    The estimates we received were $2803, $3020, $3279, $3700, $3900, $4041, and $4300.   The estimates were all for the same design (I either sent drawings to the vendor, or they came over to our home and measured).  Now for the fun:  Our situation wasn't the easiest to install the doors in due to some unevenness in the walls & tile of our older home.   Some of the vendors came over and grumbled a bit... and one simply told us that for $4000 we'd get a shower door that was not warrantied against leaks (I'm not sure why one would buy a shower door, other than preventing water from getting out... LOL).   About half the vendors made it past the first cut.   Due to budget constraints we had to leave things off until this year, and when we reached out to the vendors again, the only consistent player in the list was C&S.  They already had the second best bid, and we asked if they would match the lowest bid we had because we preferred to work with them to which they agreed.

We signed the contract, gave them the credit card and they were good to start the process.   As I indicated, we had a tougher than normal install and there were a few blips during fabrication of the actual glass panels due to the edge requirements.   Chris called us and told us that they opted not to charge the first payment until they nailed down a design that would work, and they came over and remeasured.   On the second pass, the glass met their goals and we scheduled the installation.  Considering they did all this forethought without my asking had me impressed with their customer service-focused tilt which seemed absent in the other 6 vendors (especially the one that wanted $4000 and didn't want to give us a warranty! LOL).  Chris, Sandy and crew arrived and installed the first shower door on day 1 (it was not an easy install considering our tiny bathrooms barely allow one person to work in there comfortably, and they wrapped up the other shower in day 2.   The vendor had included the incorrect hardware for one of the doors which they took care of in a 3rd meeting (they fully installed the door on the second trip allow us full use of the shower while the replacement parts arrived).

All in all, the shower doors look great!  We got great service, an amazing price, and we were treated like paying customers (unlike how you get treated by most other vendors nowadays).   Chris & Sandy are definitely a pleasure to work with and in retrospect, I can say I'm glad I went with them rather than the other folks."

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

Installing glass block windows has benefits and disadvantages, as with most materials. The pros and cons can vary depending on the type of glass block and the window location.

Pros

  • Maintains privacy while letting light into the bathroom

  • Energy efficient

  • Sealed to prevent drafts

  • Aesthetically pleasing

  • Strong and secure

Cons

  • Costly to install

  • Challenging installation

  • Challenging repair

Most installations take 1-3 days, depending on the number of blocks and customization requirements.

Heavy glass tends to be more expensive than thin glass because it is stronger and more durable. In most cases, ¼-inch-thick glass is ideal for mirrors, and ⅛-inch-thick glass is ideal for residential windows. Heavier glass isn’t always necessary, and can be more challenging to hang or install. Work with a local window installation pro for replacement or new construction windows.

Glass block windows typically last for 15 to 30 years, which is slightly less than the 20- to 50-year lifespan of standard windows. You can extend their life by resealing them every few years. Professional installation is also key to ensuring the windows are placed correctly and will function properly for years to come. A professional installer will have the necessary skills, tools, and knowledge to install these features and can identify potential issues like damaged frames or cramped areas during a consultation.

Glass block windows come in various patterns and styles that offer privacy and unique aesthetics. Frosted or textured glass diffuses light and enhances privacy. Wave-pattern glass blocks imitate ocean waves with flowing lines. Ice-glass blocks resemble cracked ice. Fluted glass blocks feature parallel vertical grooves, adding texture and depth. Clear glass blocks, similar to glass Coke bottles, offer transparency with some distortion and may have smooth surfaces or subtle textures, adding visual interest.
