"SafeStreets Home Security was a lifesaver! They had to troubleshoot my 3 floor townhouse unit, requiring many trips up and down the stairs. Finally determined that I needed an entire new alarm system but had all the parts and equipment available. Helped me program the app and set my security codes."

"We moved to Chevy Chase MD. I contacted three different security companies. By far Ultra Guard Security was the best. Andy was very knowable about security systems and not pushy at all. If looking for security system give them a call. You will be pleased."

"They were very professional. We had been with ADT for years but they kept raising our rates so we decide dto look at other companies and ended up going with Security One. We didn't have to get any new equipment, pay any start up fee or sign a contract. The $39.99 rate will NEVER go up which was very attractive to us. They even reimbursed us for our last month we paid for ADT. They have worked out very well since we switched over and would recommend them to anyone. Thanks Security One!

Home Security Systems questions, answered by experts

Yes, you should always change your locks after buying a house. Do so as soon as possible after you move in. Otherwise, you won’t know who has working keys to the property, whether they’re spare keys or otherwise. If an intruder gains access to your house with a key, it may not be covered under your homeowners insurance.

Expect to spend an average of $150 to $500 to set up a home flood detection system. However, be aware that costs are wide-ranging. You might only spend a budget-friendly $50 to place basic, battery-operated sensors in a few key areas of your home, or $150 to set up two or three smart sensors. The purchase and professional installation of a whole-home protection system with water shutoff capabilities could cost between $500 and $1,000.

Yes, many providers offer reinforced steel, fire-rated, and electronic access doors for businesses.

The best type of deadbolt depends on your specific needs. If accessibility is your primary concern, a single-cylinder deadbolt is the easiest to operate. Mortise locks are likely the most secure type of deadbolt you can install, but single-cylinders combined with secondary locking mechanisms like vertical locks are also a great option. Smart locks will give you the most flexibility to open and close your locks whenever and wherever you need to.

Grounding is a great first step to prevent electrical shock, but you can take it further with GFCI outlets and AFCIs (arc fault circuit interrupters). In particular, AFCIs help protect against the type of electrical arcs that cause fires, like if a mouse chews on a wire or your laptop starts overheating at the wall. These are required in some areas of your home.
