Kurt and his crew were very professional and pleasant throughout the entire project.  When it came time to make a final choice on plants, Kurt met with us at a local nursery and guided us through the selection process.  His knowledge of each plant?s growth habit and good/bad points was extremely helpful.  The installation processes went very smoothly and we are thoroughly pleased with how the plants and lighting enhance the appearance of the house.  We give Kurt our highest recommendation.

"I contacted multiple landscaping companies in my area, and by far M&R was the most professional, responsive and reasonably priced. The representative contacted me the same day that I sent the quote request through Angie's List, and came to my house the next day on a Sunday morning to evaluate the job and give me a price quote on the spot. We agreed on the price and a date (the following Saturday), and he and his crew showed up on the agreed date promptly at 8am and started work immediately. They had the yard cleared of leaves and were done by 10am, which was impressive as I had a ton of leaves covering the yard, and multiple large garden beds needed to be cleared of leaves as well. After they were done, I found no damage to my landscape plants either. Great job overall and worth the money paid."

"When we moved into our new house we had a number of remodeling projects. Josh added on a laundry room in our kitchen and built a large walk-in storage area with shelving. He also installed more efficient lighting fixtures in the living room and storage closet. We have had many compliments on the work from friends who come into our house. Josh was trustworthy, honest, easy to communicate with about the work and punctual in completing work on time. Josh is a creative, skillful and very capable craftsman."

"Initial call for appointment was quick and easy.  Peter came out and measured garage and performed their system design on laptop software with 3-D visual analysis. Adjustments made on the fly with software to include cost estimates. We agreed on price and designs were printed within one hour.  Second appointment made to install on Friday, April 19.  Completed in 1-day.  Excellent workers were polite, courteous, and efficient.  Great experience and absolutely recommend.  In fact, I referred to a co-worker to Garage-TEK.

"Tony's Lawn & Garden did such a great job on our patio and landscaping. Tony was so patient with all of my last minute changes, and he was incredibly responsive to all of my emails and phone calls. His price was much better than the other people we interviewed. I highly recommend Tony's Lawn & Garden!"

Greenhouses and Nurseries questions, answered by experts

Minor fixes like patching leaks or repainting are DIY-friendly, but structural repairs require professional expertise.

The quickest way you can protect plants and trees from frost is to cover them with garden blankets or frost cloths. Also, bringing potted plants or trees indoors is much simpler than trying to cover and protect them outdoors. Remember to anchor blankets with something such as sandbags, fabric pins, or rocks if the forecast calls for strong winds to keep them from blowing away and exposing your trees and plants.

Eco-friendly materials include sustainably-sourced woods, recycled metals, low-VOC paints, and non-toxic sealants, which reduce environmental impact. Using these in repairs promotes sustainability and can improve indoor air quality and overall building health.

In most cases, wait three to five days to repot or relocate a plant from a greenhouse or nursery. That way, your plant has time to recover from any shock during the move and adapt to the conditions in and around your home. Some hearty plants may not need as long, and delicate plants might need several weeks. You should ask the professional at your nursery for a recommended timeline. Consider asking about an initial watering schedule to help stimulate root growth and promote a healthy plant.

Adding burnt charcoal to your garden beds and plant pots can yield several benefits, but there are risks involved, too. Charcoal, particularly biochar, can enhance soil structure, improve water drainage, and increase nutrient retention. When activated, charcoal provides key nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. However, burnt charcoal, especially from briquettes, can inadvertently alter soil's pH levels and become hazardous to plants. Overall, there are better and less risky soil amendments available, such as vermiculite, perlite, or wood chips.
