"I could not be more happy with my new patio. I have been working with this family owned company for 10 years. They have done major landscaping in the past and the most recent project is my new patio. They treat my propety as if it were their own and always do quality work. I do not have to worry about the results when I hire EB Landscaping & Home Improvement, Inc."

"I have my gardens mulched every year and this was the best job ever done. It looks wonderful! The workers arrived on the designated day and were very anxious to please. They did a great job. The neighbors have remarked about noticing the effort these people made and how nice it looks. The mulch was applied several inches deep and will do a great job of controlling weeds throughout the summer. I have already asked them to schedule me for next year."

"We recently moved to Columbia and I wanted to lay some river rock in 3 areas of my courtyard to make a permanent cover where previously it was mulch. The estimate was about 3 tons of stone and I contacted a local stone supplier for the materials. At the same time I checked on HomeAdvisor for someone to to the work placing all the stone as that's just too big a job for me to do by myself (maybe 20 years ago....). After reading the reviews and checking with several companies I was very pleased with my conversation with Fred from DMF Landscaping and decided to go with Fred. He worked up an estimate for me that included everything start to finish, and also included an option to pickup the stone as part of the project rather than having to coordinate with the Stone Store for delivery. The price was not the lowest, and was the next to highest, but in a world where you don't wlays get what you pay for, I found Fred's estimate to be very fair, assuming quality work would be included. Fred contacted me the day before the project to confirm, and that was already off to a good start as that doesn't always happen with contractors. Many times it's been a guessing.waiting game. Not with DMF! On project day Fred called me from the Stone Store to let me know he had the materials and was on the way over. 40 minutes later he and his team arrived on schedule and after a quick walk-through of the project site to make sure everyone was on the same page, they got to work. His crew were friendly and very conscientious of their work: -- the type of stone we ordered ranged in size from 2-3 inches across (think big golf ball) to 5-6 inches across on some of the bigger stones (big softball). My wife and I were able to see them working through the kitchen windows and we noticed the care they used to select the largest stones to place around the edges of each of the areas to create a border, and them placed the smaller stone in the middle to fill out the areas. This careful border placement very much added to the visual appeal of the areas. It would have been quite easy for them to just dump all the stones and spread them out, and I mist likely would not have known the difference. But they went to this extra effort and the results are simply fantastic. Fred was an excellent communicator through the entire process and I cannot recommend them highly enough. I will absolutely be calling on Fred and the DMF team for all future work, and have already given his name to several neighbors who came by to compliment us on the 'new look'. It's really a show stopper and it's due to the hard work and professionalism of Fred and his crew. Not easy to find this type of quality and concern for a job well done, so in closing, a big 'THANK YOU - WELL DONE' to Fred and DMF!"

"Rick returned our calls promptly and gave us a fair quote for services. Baumann's does not overcharge or upsell. Once we settled on Baumann's Landscaping as our contractor, we called Rick and the crew were out the next morning promptly at 9am. We were expecting two days of work to clear the brush, but they completed the job in 4 hours. The crew went above and beyond, killing vines choking our trees, mulching all the deadfall, and pushing the brush line all the way back beyond the trees (we live on Maryland wetlands). Fast, prompt, great job. Would absolutely hire again. A++."

Customers say: Terrific value

"SL Landscaping came quickly and gave me a good estimate. I needed neighbor permission for access and cost sharing. When all was arranged at my end, I contacted SL for the work and they gave me date/time for performance. The showed up on the date, at the time and did the work quickly and efficiently with minimal disturbance to the surrounding vegetation, etc. I was very pleased."

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

You can choose from various kinds of organic mulch and inorganic mulch. Organic mulch may be in the form of wood chips, pine needles, and compost and eventually decompose. Inorganic mulch, such as gravel, rocks, and landscape fabric, is more durable but doesn’t help the soil.

The time that it takes to fill in a pool with dirt varies based on the size of the pool and the equipment you have available. Using heavy equipment, like an excavator rather than a shovel, will significantly cut down on the time it takes to complete the project. With the right equipment, it may only take a day or two. However, after the initial filling, the dirt will continue to settle over the following weeks and months. You may need to add more dirt to make the empty area level with the rest of the yard.

Hydroseeding is a great option for sloped yards, as sod might not root as well. Hydroseeding also traditionally creates sprouts faster than normal seeding—up to a full week faster. Additionally, you can customize your slurry mix with hydroseed, allowing you to create a mixture that will work specifically for your yard’s conditions.

It’s important to remember that hydroseeded lawns require a lot of water during the first few weeks of installation, which can be time-consuming and costly. Additionally, the installation window tends to be shorter than that of sod and traditional grass.

If you are xeriscaping a lawn from scratch, your best bet for preparing the lawn is to work with a xeriscaping specialist in your area. The most common first step to making the transformation, however, will be to remove the turfgrass from your lawn. The subsequent steps will often include amending the soil to support new plants and installing low-drip or drip irrigation systems.

No, gravel and crushed rock are different. Crushed rock is made in a quarry and has sharp, jagged edges. It’s most commonly used for building and construction.

Gravel naturally occurs in river beds or lakes and features smooth edges, making it a better choice for landscaping or other decorative areas. Like crushed stone, gravel can also be found in quarries, but it’s typically due to rock-on-rock erosion rather than machinery.
