"Due to my new role as a primary caregiver, I decided to research a local lawn service provider. After careful consideration, I decided to use Moyer Lawn Service & Landscaping even though the providers wasn’t the cheapest. I started with the regular routine mowing service. Then decided to use Moyer for a special clean up project. Jose and his 6 men crew started the special yard clean up project on June 14th at 8:00am. The crew expertise went directly to cutting back the ivy, honey suckle, bamboo, and VA creepers on the chain link fence. Pruning the shrubs, Azaleas deadwood, cut down some small trees. Also include some general yard area maintenance. The end result was a picture perfect yard done by a well qualified landscaping crew."

"The estimate was reasonable, the installation was completed in a day and per schedule, and the crew did an excellent job of cleaning up after the install. I am quite happy with the job, with only a minor issue with a couple of pieces of pressure treated lumber that were warped or visibly chipped. All in all a great experience."

"My experience with MA Cleaning & Landscaping Design was terrific from beginning to end. Lili's personal response to my initial inquiry was incredible. She came by the same day as my call, reviewed the property and made very helpful suggestions. She provided the quote that same evening and the work was scheduled for the following week. The team who did the work were efficient and very skilled. The end result is fabulous. I shall be contacting them again."

"We are ecstatically happy with Xtra Care. Xtra Care is committed to quality, is both proactive and responsive with customer care, and follows through. Based on our experience, I recommend this company without reservation and will use them exclusively for all of our future projects. From the moment we started contacting potential contractors, Xtra Care stood out and was the most engaged and responsive to our inquiries. Cleber and Angela listened carefully to our goals and ideas and developed a plan that exactly met our budget and needs. Both were incredibly patient as we worked through all the details of the project and never tried to upsell us. Mari in the main office is one of the most responsive people I’ve ever encountered. She answered every email or call quickly, gave us plenty of notice of scheduled work, and proactively alerted us when there were unavoidable weather delays. CJ and his hardscaping crew were PHENOMENAL! This was not an easy job, and they had to work around challenging winter weather and supply chain issues. No project is ever challenge-free. The measure of a company and a project manager is how they respond to those challenges. CJ is the gold standard. In addition to staying in regular contact with us throughout the project, CJ responded quickly, efficiently, and expertly to any concerns that we raised. CJ and the hardscaping crew’s commitment to excellence was apparent every day and shines through in the quality of the final product. Raphael and the landscaping crew capped off the project with a perfect execution of Angela’s design. On installation day, both Angela and Raphael were here to fine-tune the design and ensure that we were happy with all the plants and their placement. The landscaping crew did a great job – their soil preparation and careful handling and installation of the plants made it clear that they know what they are doing and really care about the long-term health of the landscaping. We had planned to use a fence company that we had used previously to repair and replace failing fencing, but after working with Xtra Care and meeting Bruno, their carpentry lead, we decided to go with Xtra Care, and are so glad that we did. Bruno took the time to work with us and to provide options that would keep us within our overall project budget. The workmanship on the fence is outstanding and better than what we’ve seen from other fencing installers."

"We had lost two large oak trees on our property and had five other mature oak trees with large "widow makers" high up. The dead trees would be felled, but no stump grinding was required. Four Angie's List tree services and 1 non-Angie's List service were contacted for quotes. All but one made an appointment to come out to our home, evaluate the task, and provide a quote. We selected Gordon Frazier Tree Service for our job. Gordon responded promptly and came out within a few days to give us a quote. We found Gordon to be very professional, easy to work with, and made good suggestions that helped to lower the cost of the job, which was a very competitive one. We liked that Mr. Frazier would be on-site and oversee the agreed upon work the entire time. Our dead trees and several of the trees with dead limbs were near our buried septic tank and sewer lines running to the septic field. Other tree services were still interested in using large bucket trucks as much as possible, while avoiding these areas. But Gordon Frazier eased our concerns by not using any heavy bucket trucks. Instead each tree was climbed by an individual using ropes who would remove limbs and trunk in pieces, tying the larger pieces to ropes so they could be gently lowered to the ground. The job was completed in one day. Overall they did an excellent job and we are very happy with their work. They arrived at the appointed time, performed all the agreed upon work as quoted, removed limbs and branches by chipping them, and cleaned up afterwards. We definitely would hire them again, and recommend them to everyone."

Brush Chipping questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can conduct your own leaf removal, but consider that keeping up with leaf removal is time-consuming and requires regular yard work throughout the fall. The process can take a few hours a week. Professionals have lawn equipment that can speed up the process and save you time. Additionally, consider how you’ll dispose of the leaves. If your sanitation company won’t pick them up—especially if you have many bags from a once-annual cleanup— you’ll have to drive the bags to the dump. It’s usually easier to leave the work and disposal to a professional leaf removal service.

Some states have bans on disposing of yard waste in plastic bags in landfills. Yard waste takes up space in landfills and releases methane gas when disposed of improperly. It's best to repurpose it naturally to benefit your garden and the environment.

Foxtail grasses grow annually, making their appearance in the first months of the year from January through April. They dry out by late spring, which is when they are the biggest threat to your pets. However, some of these pesky foxtail weeds are perennial and live for several seasons before dying out.

Trees that provide a habitat to bats and an abundance of bugs—their main food source—will attract bats to your yard. Because the North American landscape has changed so much in recent years, bats have a harder time finding trees with cavities to shelter in. If your yard has a dead or dying tree with a lot of sun exposure, bats will likely be drawn to it because trees with those features are less common.

Mature lilac bushes that are large and overgrown are more challenging to remove than small lilac bushes. Large lilac bushes have deeper roots that are more widespread, making it harder to dig them up and remove them. If you don’t dig under and around the primary roots, then you run the risk of the lilac bush growing back. So, it is a time-consuming process if done correctly.
