"I highly recommend the Plomari General Contractors, LLC who remodeled my master suite bedroom and bathroom. The extensive job was completed in the scheduled time and for the reasonable price that was agreed upon. George Mathios, who is a very knowledgeable manager, would come every morning to discuss with his crew, the work that needed to be completed, and return each afternoon to inspect their progress. The workers were skilled in the jobs (removal of wall paper, painting, installing recessed lights, installing tile and bathroom fixtures, shower door, vanity, etc.) they performed. The electrician who installed the recessed lighting and laborer who artfully installed the bathroom tiles were highly skilled, meticulous, neat, and took great pride in their work! George and his crew were a pleasure and cleaned up after themselves daily- removed the demolished bathroom and old carpeting. Unexpected repairs and insulation were provided as needed at minimal cost. Because I am so pleased with the professional job that Plomari Contractors provided, I will be using this company for any future jobs! Thank you George and company for my beautiful bathroom and bedroom!"

"I bought a home built before 1978 and found that there was some asbestos floor tile in the basement. I reached out to D&H Demolition and they immediately came out to take a look at the project and provided a free estimate. They were very helpful and answered all my questions which made me feel a lot safer about the situation. I hired them and they took care of the work the very next day! Overall I was very pleased with their price and quality of work. Highly recommend!"

"Andrew and his team were very knowledgeable and professional. Andrew and his team were able to remodel our master bathroom with precision and expertise. Andrew did a great job explaining the details of the project to me and communicating with me about the project expectations and goals. Additionally, along with his team, Andrew rerouted plumbing and electrical, placed tile on walls and floors, installed a custom shower pan, they installed a brand new free standing bath tub, and made sure everything was done properly and to last. They went above and beyond when they used the remainder of the tile to perfectly craft the floor molding to seamlessly flow with the tile on the floor and walls. Overall, I would definitely recommend Andrew for any of your home renovation needs as he is very well rounded in this trade. I can’t wait to book him for our next bathroom remodel!"

"Juan and his team did a very very good job tiling my kitchen walls, were diligent, and eager to please. They were glad to work with me over my misunderstanding of one of the bits in the contract, and went out of their way to solve it."

"L & T does excellent work, I have used their services on multiple occasions. Not only have they done drywall and painting for me but they have installed ceramic tile and have completed electrical work as well. They are very courteous, ask you for your input during the project to make sure you are satisfied with the work as they proceed, cleaning up at the end of the each day before leaving. I am completely satisfied with their work and will be using them for future projects."

"Caulking of vanity area was completed in three baths as well as a walk-in shower. A recently installed skylight was framed out and finished with matching paint. And three folding doors were painted in the laundry room perfectly! Amazing work ethic! I would hire him again in a heart beat. Susie D., Silver Spring, MD"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Ceramic tile adheres best with premixed adhesive or mortar. If you’re installing the tile in an area with moisture, such as a bathroom or kitchen, opt for waterproof adhesive, and if you choose mortar, make sure it’s thick because that is the easiest to work with and ensures the tiles will sit flat.

Grouting hearth tiles is one of the most important steps. It seals the tiles so heat doesn’t transfer under the tiles so easily, which can be dangerous. For this reason, heat-resistant grout is a must. Grout also prevents dust, dirt, and any other material from gathering between your tiles. If this happens and those buildups are flammable, a fire could start between the tiles.

Yes, tiling a bathroom is a great way to boost your home's value, especially if you are replacing old or dated flooring. Adding a new tile floor can deliver a return on investment (ROI) of around 56.4%, with some projects offering up to 100% ROI. Buyers appreciate new tile because it provides a modern look and is known for being durable, water-resistant, low-maintenance, and easy to clean. For the best results and highest return, consider hiring a professional, as tiling mistakes can be very noticeable and detract from the value.

It’s best to start with tiling the shower floor before moving on to the walls for the most visually-pleasing results. When taking on any tiling project, you’ll want the wall tiles to “sit” neatly on the floor tiles rather than overlapping them. Finishing your floor tiles first will allow you to place your wall tiles without any gaps, holes, or awkward intersections.

To ensure an even and unbending surface to lay tiles on, you’ll typically need to put a subfloor under a tile floor. Fiber cement backboards are the most common choice, but using plywood is also possible. Don’t neglect this step, or you could risk water damage and grout or tiles prematurely cracking or crumbling, especially in an area with high foot traffic.
