"William painted the interior of my home back in June 2016, he did a marvelous job so I referred him to family members and friends; all of which loved his work as well as his professionalism. Since 2016, I have hired William to paint several projects in my home. Most recently my kitchen cabinets where he did an OUTSTANDING job. The best and fastest way to remove paint from a deck often involves combining a chemical stripper with a pressure washer. Gel-based paint strippers are highly recommended because their thick consistency makes them less messy and easier to apply than liquid strippers. After applying the stripper to loosen the paint, you can use a pressure washer to efficiently wash away the residue. When using a pressure washer for this task, it's important to use a low pressure (under 1000 PSI) to avoid forcing too much moisture into the wood, which could lead to mildew or rot.

It’s best to use a slightly slower-working paint remover that is safer to use, such as mineral spirits, because the strongest spray paint removers are often also the most toxic. Many of these products contain dangerous chemicals, such as methylene chloride, which the EPA banned for most uses in April 2024 after it was established as a major carcinogen.

Some methods of removing paint from metal that use physical force, like scraping or grinding, may damage the metal. Other methods like chemical strippers or acids are unlikely to damage the metal underneath, but take care using any method to strip paint to minimize the chance of damage.

You can paint over lead paint, or “encapsulate” it with a special paint that includes an ingredient called an encapsulant. The EPA approves encapsulation as a lead paint removal method as long as the paint remains undisturbed. Standard types of paint without an “encapsulant” from the big box stores or hardware stores do not meet EPA standards for remediation of lead-based paint.
