"He just fixed it!! A very nice man. Came, looked at central vacuum determined the problem and fixed it. No sales pitch no telling me how old the machine was and that it would soon need to be replaced. He also checked all filters and said was. Good"

"Just had an emergency visit to replace capacitor in one of my two HVAC units. Was able to schedule my favorite tech Kevin through the excellent front desk staff. Called in early morning and same day repair work - and Kevin fixed the problem even though the house electricity suddenly cut off halfway through the visit due to the remnants of Hurricane Debby coming through. Our family been with Holtzople since 2008 with the installation and maintenance of two TRANE heat pump units. We have always been extremely happy with Holtzople. Their expertise and knowledge of HVAC operations is superb. But most importantly, from the HVAC techs and Kevin to the front office staff, the people at Holtzople are kind, helpful and genuinely interested in taking care of us. This shows in our semiannual service plan visits as well as the rare emergency needs that pop up like the situation discussed above. And we have been very happy with our TRANE HVAC units. We will have Holtzople as our HVAC company forever. We highly recommend them to all our local friends and neighbors in central Maryland. Simply a great company with great people. 👍"

"The company arrived on time. I did call the office the morning of because I had a message that they would call the day before the appointment to confirm which did not happen. After their arrival and set up one of the technicians went around the house and took pictures of the inside of the vents under the registers. Then he approached me and said that I had mold in my ductwork and around the coils of my unit. He proceeded to show me pictures on his phone of the ducts (which in my opinion didn't show anything but dirt,  dog hair and food) and spots "that may be mold" . He then showed me the coils and was pointing out "mold" but again I didn't see any. He told me that it was no problem because they could take care of it that day, I asked how much that would be and I was told he would call his manager. The price to clean up the mold was $700. I declined. I do not believe I had mold and if I did I don't think that they would have/or should have even proceeded with the duct cleaning since it would have stirred it up and sucked it into their machine. Also to clean mold they usually have to wear special suits and respirators.

After they left I went to inspect the area where the dryer vent was cleaned and found dust/lint everywhere so I had to clean up. I felt like I should not have had to lug my vacuum to the basement to clean up the mess.

While the ducts were being don't the front door wide open so I has flies and bees in the house when they were gone.

Also I asked how much "stuff" came out of the vents and all they said was a lot. I had ducts cleaned at a previous home and I was shown what came out into the machine.

The overall experience was "ok" but I felt like the mold story was a ploy that would cost me unnecessary money. I will not use this company in the future.

"Beltway HVAC was fantastic and I would recommend them to anyone! Ryan came out and gave us a quote that was very reasonable for a complete AC replacement, and we had it scheduled to be done within the week. The techs were knowledgeable, super friendly, and thorough and did a fantastic job! I was given a walkthrough of the new system when they were done, and the techs even tried to help fix our wonky screen door. Amazing, amazing customer service, I highly recommend them."

"The 2 techs first showed up after my dryer had died and cleaned the vents (inside - out and also from outside-in) as much as they could but said they needed me to have an operating dryer so that they could make sure everything was pushed out the side vent and airflow was good. They were very knowledgeable and honest which I appreciate when hiring any company without a first hand recommendation from my own friends/relatives first. They rescheduled a follow up appointment after my new dryer was delivered and were here the same morning and finished the cleaning and confirmed that everything was cleaned and working as it should now. I'll definitely hire them again next year and try to keep up an annual cleaning so it doesn't get so clogged next time. Highly recommended."
"We are very pleased with the job Dave did for us today. He was prompt and very courteous and did a professional job cleaning our carpets. Thank you for keeping the planned schedule as promised. We will recommend your company to our family and friends.

Stan"

Central Vacuum Systems questions, answered by experts

Maintaining your central vacuum cleaner is crucial to extending its lifespan. Ensuring the filter is cleaned or changed often is vital to ensuring clogs don’t impact your motor. In addition, inspecting motor brushes regularly and lubricating the engine when needed helps keep it in tip-top shape. Finally, cleaning the central vacuum hose of dirt and debris helps keep clogs at bay, especially if you’ve vacuumed something wet or sticky.

No. Only the hose or the attachments are portable in a central vacuum system. A portable vacuum is a standalone model like a stick, canister, or upright. A central vacuum system is defined by a central power unit, which is installed in one place like an AC unit, and the connected network of piping to funnel the suction.

If your central vacuum has lost suction, you probably have a clog in the system. You can remove a clog yourself using a portable vacuum cleaner or central vacuum maintenance sheets. Stubborn clogs or damage to the system require a specialized technician to repair.

It can be difficult to know right away if your central vacuum is clogged since it operates quietly compared to regular vacuums. However, there are a couple of signs you can look for. If you feel like it’s losing suction or isn’t cleaning effectively, then there’s likely a clog somewhere.

Make sure you turn the vacuum on and feel the end of the hose handle. If you don’t feel any suction, then you’re dealing with a clog in the hose. You can see if the clog is further down in the system by attaching the hose to each outlet until you find the one with the least amount of suction.

They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.
