"Office staff person was courteous, helpful and scheduled repair quickly. Technician was prompt, very pleasant, careful, efficient and thorough. He replaced springs and cables, oiled springs, hinges, etc, and explained the need to oil parts more frequently because the garage is sometimes used for woodworking and the dust can affect the mechanics of the door. I had watched a couple videos on similar repairs so I would know what to expect. Added bonus: not only do we have new springs and cables but now the door is so quiet when operating that we hardly hear it. Thank you."

"Just as they said they installed the window in one day and the next day the finisher can and finished the inside of the house. The window looks great and they cleaned everything up and removed the old window I would definitely use them again"

"

AMS got my permit for me and was able to closely match my vinyl siding and roof shingles. It took a few days but one was because of rain. They also replaced my front gutters to fit in with my new portico.

The new portico blends well with the house and AMS took care that the new materials they used went well with the old materials. They cleaned up every day and after the job was finished. My old portico slanted down and dripped rain and snow on my front steps. The new one is a Gable roof and makes a big difference on snow days.

AMS handled al the Montgomery County inspections and the final approval.

"The owner followed up with my inquiry, did a site visit and provided an estimate to my specifications.  The stone that I wanted had to be special ordered but upon arrival ended up on the grass instead of the drive.  A bit of an inconvenience but no damage was done to the grass.  The wall was built on time and no change to the final charge.  I was very pleased.

"BEST MONEY I EVER SPENT !!!!! I purchased a 2 hr handyman coupon to fix an exterior door that wasn't closing properly. This door needed to be fixed. A hinge had come undone I had heard that “winter was coming”. The repairman arrived on time and he suggested an alternative fix to re-notching the hinges and tearing out the framing of the door. My door was closing perfectly in half an hour! This quick fix gave me time to address some repairs I had thought out of reach of this coupon. In short, within my 2 hours, my handyman had patched a crack in my concrete steps and in the driveway (using a mix I had on hand as well as some materials he had in his truck), moved my air conditioner to the basement, and performed many tasks that single women call “please move this and put it there”. All of this performed with courtesy and skill. Myriad Handyman Services has certainly earned my loyalty. Instead of filling up my time with an overkill fix of my door, my money could be spent on a list of other little things that needed to be done. Bravo, Myriad Handyman Services! Well done!"

"It was okay expect for the waits for service okay when I called they said well we don't have any opening until end of March I think or early April and I don't I have any opening until sometime in May. He just came out and did an estimate and see what else I needed and he was very unhappy with the task that I told him I needed done, but I refuse to back down because that is what I needed so he did it he brought a [06:16] and I don't know how much of it he did because I wasn't able to get around enough to get in the crowd spaces in the attic. He did get the front door to stop binding it was impossible to lock and unlock and that was fine the other thing he did was patch the hole in the drywall and I think he did a [11;07]  job if I had be more mobile and able to pay more attention I would have told him it's not an acceptable way to do. What he did was take some patch and put it over the hole in the drywall see for that patched in was I wanted the original structure fixed."

"I needed help installing a new patio door and leveling and repairing subfloor and a joist that had significant water damage. Adam was able to come out quickly and was very helpful in understanding what needed to be done. Once Adam was able to work out a very reasonable estimate, Brian came out the very next day and got to work. He worked extremely hard. This job took two days and I don't think I saw Brian take one single break. He has a tremendous work ethic and is very attentive to every detail of the job. Very professional and polite and I would definitely hire again."

Driveway Gates questions, answered by experts

Yes, most electric and automatic gates can be opened manually. They are equipped with a manual override or release mechanism that detaches the motor from the gate, allowing it to be moved by hand. This feature is essential during power outages or other emergencies.

To activate the manual override, you will typically need a specific key or tool. In some cases, you may also need a screwdriver to remove a cover to access the release mechanism. The use of a key is a common security measure to prevent unauthorized individuals from manually opening the gate.

Because every model is different, it is highly recommended to consult your gate's user manual to familiarize yourself with the specific procedure before you need to use it. Keep any necessary keys or tools in an accessible location. Be aware that automatic gates can be very heavy, so opening and closing them manually may be difficult.

In North America, electric gates are also subject to the UL 325 Standard for Safety, which includes provisions to allow emergency responders to access the property.

The best direction for a gate to swing depends on its location and purpose, but swinging inward is the general rule. An inward swing is often considered safer, prevents the gate from opening into public spaces like a sidewalk, and may be required by local building codes.

There are exceptions and specific considerations. If your property is on a slope, an inward swing might not be possible. For a deck gate, it's safest to have it swing away from any steps. In a backyard, the direction can be a matter of preference, though an inward swing can be helpful when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

Regardless of direction, ensure the gate can open fully without hitting any objects or blocking spaces. While an inward swing is standard, a gate that can swing both in and out offers the most flexibility if your setup allows for it.

Many contractors offer warranties for materials and labor. Confirm terms before hiring.

You can install a privacy cover on your wrought iron gate anytime. However, pick a dry day if you apply stain or paint to the paneling. If you’re hiring a local fencing contractor, they often offer better rates in their low season outside the busy spring and summer months.

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.
