"Daniel was great to work with. He called when he said he would. He showed up for the testing on time. Explained what he was doing. He did a very thorough check for moisture behind the walls and air samples where needed. He really showed that he knows what he is doing. If I ever need a mold inspection done again I ll be calling Rudd to do it."

"Gina is a really nice, competent person. They are really great. We have the $29 for every sample that she gave which required 3 air samples. I also had to have testing for asbestos because some companies wanted that. I also got an Air Clearance Certificate so that was about $350 per request. I paid a total of $1750. I think my insurance company told me about her. I didn't look at any other industrial hygienist so I don't have any comparison, but I went with them because my insurance company said she did excellent work. I was comfortable with the cost. She is extremely knowledgeable. She has been used as an expert witness in cases. She knows products out there that are not effective and helping me to control the air quality in our home. I would recommend her to others."

Asbestos Removal questions, answered by experts

Since the EPA partially banned asbestos in 1989, it is no longer used to manufacture new siding in the United States; production had largely ceased by the early 1980s. Many other countries, such as Canada, Iceland, and Denmark, also have bans on asbestos. However, asbestos siding is still present in many homes built before the late 1980s. The only definitive way to know if your siding contains asbestos is to have it professionally lab-tested.

Asbestos has many beneficial properties, including fire resistance, strength, and chemical resistance. It is also an excellent insulator, which is why it was used in pipe insulation and other building materials for decades. For all its benefits, asbestos is dangerous for human health, which is why it was eventually banned from use in certain products.

To seal off, or encapsulate, asbestos-containing materials in your home, you’ll need to utilize a sealant specifically designed for asbestos encapsulation. These sealants bind with asbestos fibers to keep them from spreading throughout the air and causing bodily harm. In many cases, these sealants can be simply painted on, but you’ll need to wear a protective body suit as well as an asbestos-rated respirator to interact with these materials safely.

If you have an older electrical system with fraying wires and other signs of damage, removal  may be the best course of action. When asbestos begins to break down, it's more likely to become airborne, increasing the risk of health issues when it's inhaled.

However, if the system is in good condition and doesn't have visible signs of wear or damage, leaving it alone may be the safest course of action. An asbestos abatement and removal professional can help you determine the best way to proceed.

According to the National Cancer Institute, asbestos-related diseases can take anywhere from 10 to 40 years for symptoms to appear. The health risks increase with prolonged and heavier exposure. Risk factors also include:

  • Amount of exposure

  • Chemical makeup, size, and shape of the asbestos fibers

  • Length of time a person is exposed to asbestos

  • Genetic factors

  • Source of exposure (direct exposure or secondhand exposure from someone directly exposed)
