"Two very nice men came and carefully and thoroughly cleaned the flue. They use a vacuum concurrently with the sweeping so as to minimize the ash and dust, and it works. They were careful not to track in dirt and such from outside and were very pleasant."

"This didn’t turn out as good as I was expecting. Basically when you purchase the contract you have to be your own foreman and superintendent and quality control. They scheduled it around time we weren’t able to be home so we probably didn’t get as much labor as we should have. They were going to charge me $370 for 8 hours additional labor which I didn’t agree with."

"Frank Zeberlein represented Ruxton Renovations and was the first company to respond to our request with a qualified written price quote and tentative schedule. Frank walked us through the process to include pictures from previous jobs he has completed that was similar in scope. Frank also provided suggestions and recommendations on ways to control costs without sacrificing quality. As with all projects we came into this effort with a clean slate and it was good to have someone guide us through the process. Another key feature to Ruxton Renovations was that they did the COMPLETE job. There was no subcontracting to other companies for Plumbing, Drywall, Tile, etc. The people who were assigned to the job were all Ruxton employees. Regarding the quote process - I received three written quotes from companies off Angies List and the quotes ranged from $3,500 to $14,000 for similar activities.

The actual work schedule was loosely tied to receipt of the tile from Chesapeake Tile Company. Once the tile was in-house, the crew arrived and began the demolition task. The demolition was done efficiently with minimal mess. The next phase involved plumbing which was completed with the new cement board for the wall installed the same day. The shower cement pan and shower wall preparations were completed within the next day. Note, in a parallel effort - We selected Granite from the shop floor to minimize cost (another good idea). The Tile was the most complex part of the operation due to the "picture frame" design and the selected glass tile. Personally, we did not discuss the additional installation time with Frank prior to finalizing the quote and he did not raise the final price even though it took two additional days to complete (Much Appreciated !!!).

The Tile was completed and we were given the chance to review the tile work prior to final grouting. This was a good process because it allowed us to make sure we were happy with the tile layout and alignment before everything was grouted in place. In fact, we requested they replace individual tiles because they were not straight. We received no push back from the crew or Frank and the offending tiles were quickly replaced before grouting. Note, we even got fancy on floor tile and added diamond glass tiles for accent - Another labor intensive idea that we were not charged any extra. Upon completion of the tile work - Ruxton installed the new vanity, Granite Top, Toilet, and all fixtures.

One discriminator for Ruxton was the Shower Seat design - I have never seen this design before from any other company. The Seat is a basic half moon Granite Design that matches the shelves and sill. The Seat is compact/sturdy and provides an amazing compliment to the Shower. My wife and kids love the seat !!! In fact, we had Ruxton install a seat in the Master Bath - The job was done flawlessly (they had to cut the Tile) and was sealed properly to prevent leaking as well.

Overall, due to the complexity of the tile and some issues with tile delivery, the schedule pushed out a few extra days but during the job - I never got the sense from the Crew that they were getting rushed into making mistakes based on meeting a schedule. Frank emphasized job quality and customer satisfaction as his number one priorities. I also received a follow up call from Frank a few weeks after the job to make sure we were still satisfied with the job and to make sure we did not have any other questions for him.

Lesson Learned - The actual Tile Product varies dramatically in cost so be aware of that fact when you are shopping for tile. The Product Costs could significantly add to the bottom line price so go into the selecting process with one eye on "like" and one eye on "price per square foot". We got caught in the loop of really really liking tiles without understanding the price impact - For us it was a $2K lesson.

Recommendation - Yes, the price was a "Good Value" and the Professionalism/Quality was top notch. I would gladly recommend Ruxton Renovations to my friends and neighbors for any home remodeling tasks. Thanks Frank !!!

"They did a great job. They solved all the problems I had with the chimney and it’s been working perfectly ever since. They also fixed a problem on the roof around the chimney; they replaced the wood around the chimney with a material that would never rot, so they fixed it even better than it was before. It took them a couple of days to do the work. They took care of all the cleanup as well. We've been real happy with them."

Bird Control questions, answered by experts

No single deterrent will work 100 percent of the time, so we suggest combining deterrents to ensure your seed has the best possible chance to grow. Using bird netting over your seed, with physical deterrents like mylar tape coupled with hanging bird feeders at the edges of your growing area—and removing any bird’s nests, if possible—will give your seeds the best possible chance for success.

If you’ve had a prior bat infestation or simply want to avoid having bats invade your home in the first place, there are a few steps you can take without the need for a pro.

  • Seal entry points, such as where your chimney meets your house, or other gaps or holes exist.

  • Use bat deterrents like bright lights or ultrasonic devices to force them away from your home.

  • Reduce bat attractions like standing water and bird nectar feeders inviting bats into your yard.

Yes, it’s possible for bats in your attic to find a way into your living spaces. Until you can properly remove the bats, the best course of action is to keep the attic doors closed and any holes sealed. Evidence suggests bats follow the airflow in your home, so they may try escaping from the attic to other parts of the house.

Both spikes and loose nets can be installed over nest sites to prevent the bird from returning, but nets are not a humane option since birds and other wildlife can get tangled in them.

Spikes are a humane alternative that deter nesting without harming the birds. In small areas, like vents, a very fine mesh net can be installed to prevent the bird from returning. These nets don't generally pose a risk to the birds.

Depending on the size of your home and accessibility, expect professional pest inspections to take between 30 and 60 minutes. If you have a large property or limited accessibility, pest inspections may take longer.
