"All Star was excellent: they were able to schedule us an appointment the same day and were extremely prompt and professional as well as reasonably priced. Al thoroughly explained the issue and was able to ensure the birds were gone before placing securing screening over the vent to prevent further intrusion. When I heard what I believed to be birds in the vent again, they came out again for no charge (60 day warranty), and were able to determine/demonstrate that although it sounded like the birds were in inside the vent it was actually just the birds trying to re-enter (sound travelled to end of vent so it sounded like they were just inches away). Overall, I would enthusiastically recommend!"

"I confirmed the appointment with Scott, who was excellent. The appointment was for 8 a.m., and he rang my doorbell precisely then. Not only that, but he had been outside observing and evaluating the birds coming in and out of my town home and my neighbors' town homes. He was super friendly and knowledgeable. He quoted and charged me a fair price, but it's also important to note that he managed my expectations prior to coordinating the follow through with the technician, Rob. Rob called me later that day (they told me I didn't have to be there as they would extract the nesting from the outside of the house) Rob, the technician called me and gave me his evaluation of the situation, and even texted me photos of the nests. More importantly, he made sure I was comfortable with him proceeding based on his feedback, which I was. He removed multiple nests from my vent and placed a "bird guard" over the entry point. It was a fair price, both Scott and Rob were tremendously professional, and they did good work. Would definitely recommend and use APM again."

Bird Control questions, answered by experts

When woodpeckers start banging on your walls or roof, they are probably looking for insects to eat, storing nuts for winter, drilling a hole to make a nest, or communicating with other birds to establish territory or find a mate.

The size of the hole can help determine the reason for the pecking. Small irregular holes are a result of insect hunts. Acorn holes are more consistently sized and often fitted with a nut in the middle. Nest holes are large and have rounded edges. If the bird is pecking to mark its territory or attract a mate, it may leave dents rather than holes, and the noise will stop when the mating season starts in spring.

Keeping birds away from a porch can involve a combination of strategies. Start with cleaning your porch. Remove food, debris, and plants that may be attracting feathered friends. Afterward, install physical deterrents like netting or spikes. Next, top off your porch with a decoy or two—and owl or hawk works. When wondering how to keep birds off the porch, it is always best to use humane efforts that won't harm winged creatures or the environment.

Trees that provide a habitat to bats and an abundance of bugs—their main food source—will attract bats to your yard. Because the North American landscape has changed so much in recent years, bats have a harder time finding trees with cavities to shelter in. If your yard has a dead or dying tree with a lot of sun exposure, bats will likely be drawn to it because trees with those features are less common.

Some birds of prey, like owls, hunt at night. Hawks are diurnal and need good light to see their prey. You could see them circling anytime from dawn to dusk. Species like the common red-tailed hawk are most active in the early morning and late evening when their prey is also typically on the go.

Generally, spring is the best time to hire a pest control service, but it also depends on when you notice the infestation. Insect pest numbers are lower in spring before they hatch, making the extermination and prevention process more manageable as nests and eggs of future pests are eliminated. However, don’t hesitate to hire a pest control specialist when you spot signs of a problem.
