"The work was done on time and within contracted costs despite delays in permit inspections due to coved limitations. Windows, flooring, drywall, painting, plumbing, electrical, heating, and necessary insulation - all work was done in a quality manner. Joe Delfina, the contractor, was often at the job site and always available. I would recommend J D Michael Company to anyone seeking a reliable professional contractor."

"The contractor has done a couple projects for me within the last few months and have shown to be timely, fairly priced and delivered a professional finished product. Also Mr. Brackettry ensured that a good breakdown and explanation was continuous throughout the process. I have recommended his services to fellow neighbors and friends and would definitely recommend him as a contractor to anyone on here."

Customers say: True professional

"
It went amazingly well.  We were worried about the disruption that would be caused by having our bathroom, which is attached to our bedroom, torn apart for several weeks, but Devin and his team could not have made it easier.  They put plastic sheeting over everything in our bedroom during the day during the demolition phase, and also rolled up our very large rug (and replaced it under our king-sized bed after they were done with the work).  They got everything done in the amount of time promised.  The crew were uniformly terrific -- nice, incredibly competent guys.   Devin was  great to work with.  Anything we wanted, he was able to figure out.  He could not have been more accommodating or helpful.  We've worked with a lot of great contractors over the years, and Devin is definitely a star.  Our bathroom designer, Debbie Gray, recommended him, and they worked together really well.  I have recommended the team to several friends already.  "

"The repairman communicated with me about arrival time and was punctual. He completed most of the jobs on my list. He was unable to complete the soffit replacement, he indicated that type of work required a general contractor. All in all, I was satisfied."

"My appointment was at 8 am and the electrician arrived around 9 am. I had no idea he was coming to me from an hour and a half away. He did call to tell me he would be late and asked about the services I needed. I was able to answer to the best of my ability. He arrived and got right to work and eventually realized he didn't have the correct parts, though he thought he did. He went to Home Depot and got the parts and came back and fixed the issues. All of this caused him to charge me a full extra hour of labor that shouldn't have been necessary. If I had been asked to provide pictures of the parts or a more in depth description of the parts/issue then I wouldn't have had to pay for an extra hour ($140) as well as be even later to work than anticipated."

"Went wonderful with the contractor. They were great to work with and helped us navigate a very troublesome insurance company. They drove from northern Virginia to silver spring to do the work as well, not any easy task and a long commute in traffic. They were just great."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

The best way to calculate framing costs is by basing your costs on the square footage of your home. On average, framing your home could cost anywhere between $7 and $16 per square foot.

To ensure you don’t go over budget, base your estimates on the higher end of the price range. If you know you’re going to use high-end materials or require a custom or complex build, you might even want to tack on an additional 5% of your budget.

The average cost of DIY window framing is about $40 to $60 in materials. If you hire a window treatment professional, you’ll pay for materials plus labor costs—anywhere from $250 to $800 per window. The final cost is highly dependent on the window size, as larger windows are heavier and more difficult to install, as well as the type of window framing material.

You should avoid drilling or cutting into load-bearing beams because removing material will weaken it and increase the risk of structural damage or even collapse. If you do need to drill into a load-bearing beam, speak with a structural engineer first to discuss where it’s safest to drill and the width and depth of the bit that’s safe to use.

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.

You can enclose an open carport, however, there are several things to consider before opting to do so. You'll want to check local building codes and permit requirements before proceeding to make sure it’s legal. While you can sometimes stick-frame a carport enclosure, pre-fab kits are also available. Remember that you'll likely need to meet concrete slab regulations and provide lighting inside the structure. Both of which could substantially drive up costs.
