"I hired them to come and install an exhaust fan as well as a thermostat. After realizing my hvac system also had a humidifier function that was incompatible with the thermostat I bought they were able to properly install my exhaust fan (I bought the wrong kind as well) and hung a chandelier under two hours. Very efficient and fair pricing."

Small jobs welcome

"The job was to reinstall the reflector on a recessed ceiling light. It was easy for the electrician, but difficult for me. The job took about five minutes. It is common practice to charge a standard amount for any service call so I was happy to pay for the expertise. Chris Haas is a very pleasant and competent fellow."

"Deshaies was one of three electricians that I received bids from. Deshaies was the most expensive, but for a reason. They also installed a load shed module since my breaker box did not have enough left over amperage. My run was about 75’ from the breaker box to the The crew of two came on time, and"

"I am absolutely satisfied with Chris and the quality his work. I had a long list of electrical needs during home renovations. He installed ceiling fans, light fixtures, moved outlets, and installed new outlets. He was flexible with his schedule and worked alongside my other contractor's. He was respectful, courteous and assisted with renovation problem solving. I highly recommend Wilk & Son Electric."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Ceiling fans require periodic cleaning of blades to avoid dust accumulation, checking screws and connections for firmness, and occasional lubrication for components, keeping the fan running smoothly and quietly over time.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. After unscrewing the fan, you can disconnect the wires and remove the entire fan from the mounting hardware. For safety, make sure the fan switch is turned off before you remove the canopy. It may be easier to remove the fan blades first, too.

Most ceiling fans have a lifespan of anywhere from five to 15 years or 10 years on average. Just how long your ceiling fan lasts depends on the quality of the parts, how much it’s used, and how well you maintain it. A fan with a weak motor that runs on the medium setting nonstop is likely to have a shorter lifespan compared to a fan with a powerful motor that runs on the slowest setting for air circulation.

In short, no. You can use the square footage range chart in this article to determine the right size ceiling fan for both indoor and outdoor spaces. However, weather elements can damage types of ceiling fans that aren't designed for outdoor use, so your ceiling fan should be weather-resistant if you plan to install it outside.

The more surface area that a ceiling fan blade has, the more effective it will be at producing airflow. Therefore, a longer ceiling fan blade is the better option if you’re looking for more wind. However, a longer blade will consume more energy than a shorter blade.
